There is a small group of shops near where I live, with a Spar [that does no cashback (despite the fact that the till displays ask whether the customer wants some)] and a couple of takeaways. There's no cash machine there though, despite how useful it would be, and popular enough to make it financially worthwhile. Does anyone know who I should be asking to get one put in?
I hate places that charge. I mean, most places can do it free, so why can't they? Was at a garage last night that was going to charge me 2 quid for a withdrawal. I just went inside and paid with my card.
You'll be lucky to get a bank to install one of theirs unless they open a branch. My housemate manages a small shopping center and none of the high street banks would install one without the shopping center paying all the costs (he couldn't tell me but exactly but it was in in excess of £10,000) The most you'll manage is one of the commercially operated machines that charge per transaction.
I'm thinking that I might be better off trying to persuade the Spar to do cashback, it's clearly totally possible for them to do. They could require a minimum spend (and hence benefit).
There's a small newsagent down the road from me with two cash machines (one inside, one outside), neither of which charge for withdrawals. It's clearly possible.
I work in a spar myself and we do cashback. though with a min spend of £2 and a 50p charge for spending under £5 (though that charge is for any spend on a card of under £5) Try talking to the manager there?
