You're absolutely right Nexxo - the V3 is a good phone for phone calls and holding, but doing anything else is properly crap with it imho. Moto's downfall of late imho have been not updating their software enough.

Damn, i knew the iPhone was missing a lot of standard features, but i didn't realise the list was that long :eeek:

Apple seem to be acting a bit strange lately, with a general "one step forward, several steps back" attitude to features. :duh:

IMHO the looks and UI do not even come close to outweighing the bad points apple forced on it: such as the immense price*, device lockdown, many missing basic phone features as above (even if a lot of them are relatively minor ones)

*with the 18 month contract, equivalent PDA's are free, the iPhone makes you pay for the contract AND pay for the phone

Hm, I see they've structured things quite differently than in the US. We get 200 texts across all three plans, with a $10 to $20 increase to get 1500 and unlimited texts respectively. Plus our starter plan gives more minutes.

But then again, you get free access to a ton of hotspots. The best we get over here is iTunes-only in a few Starbucks stores and whatever would be open to any device (and those login/authentication ones running RADIUS or whatever never let me connect properly regardless, so it's linksys or bust more often than not)

True, though this may come in time via software updates.

    - See the times of individual txt msgs instead of grouping em in time slots spanning several hours
It shows the time and date the messages happened. You must be hallucinating.

    - Forward a text message
    - Save a txt msg draft
Both true; see above. Though why you'd save a draft of four words is rather beyond me.

    - Take a note and send it as a txt msg
You can send it over email, and (for example) 8005551212@vtext.com sends a text to that phone number

    - Send/receive MMS
Email again, see above (and, oh yeah, email is free... I think I was charged 50 cents to send a VGA-quality pic previously)

    - Can't edit how much of the memory goes into txt msgs and thus can't edit/remove limit for how many txt msgs I can have
How on earth do you plan to accumulate 8GB worth of texts?

    - No flash player >.<
No irritating banner ads! Seriously, there's a single flash site that I'd want on my phone, and it really wouldn't work well without a mouse anyways.

    - Safari often crashes song playback when loading websites
Yes, this one sucks. But I'd expect it'll be fully resolved in time. It's MUCH better than it was at launch.

    - Ringtone is... silent... unless it's really quiet
No louder or quieter than any other phone I've used.

    - I can't delete photos if they got sync'ed from iTunes, unless I delete from iTunes -.-
    That's how syncing works

    - Weather... highly impractical.. takes ages to load info, granted it decides to connect
It's extremely practical in my use, but I'll give you the hideously slow load times. Likewise for stocks.

    - When connecting through EDGE, I've found it won't load the site unless I punch a site in, wait a few seconds, hit stop, and hit refresh (gotta do it everytime I hit the home button and re-open Safari)
Never been a problem for me...

    - No Sim contacts/directory
Syncs to computer which IMO is much better.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a nifty little phone, those are just some things which have grown to really irritate me since I bought it. That and the lack of being to sync over Wifi/bluetooth. I mean seriously, the iPhone's bluetooth is so lame, you can't transfer anything through it, only connect a headset, that's it. Bleh.

I went into Carphone Warehouse earlier and the woman said that they were not allowed to say how many units of the iPhone that they have in, she told me it would be best advised to come around 5pm and start queing.

You bet I am, I'll be there at 5.00pm on the dot.

Don't need it for anything else than calls and texting. I do agree that their software sucks though. My ideal would be a V3 with Nokia N95 features and (somewhat more elegant) Samsung interface. Perhaps in 5 years...

Oh, another thing: the V3 has a standard mini USB port for charging and interfacing --no esoteric plugs, cables or cradles. Any USB cable works, charges from any powered hub.

iPhone is not my cup of tea, it's one of those things where there is a lot of hype, but the product isn't great.

    W960 Sony Ericcson thanks. :)

They'd never give it away free because it requires activation through iTunes, not on-the-spot at the POS.

...and they'll revise the design, up the capacity and features and generally improve it every year - just like the iPod etc. No reason to give it away free.

I don't get what the fuss is about it. It seems like a phone that's 3-4 years out of date. Okay it has a nice UI but that's about it. I'm not sure about these so correct me if I'm wrong.

It only has Edge, I've got HDSPA (2mbit), there's no GPS, no direct push email, no video calling, no video recording. Does it have any real keys, can you sync a calendar with it?

IMO it's an overpriced and under specced. My MDA Vario 3 pisses all over it feature wise.

Add to that list the bad camera, lack of video recording, and rather large size.

I've had the same luxury with the transition from the V3 to XDA :). Bearing in mind though that a consortium of phone manufacturers have agreed to adopt the Micro-USB port as the standard connection for most, if not all, future decides.

Anyone got, or used the Nokia or LG iPhone 'killers'? I saw the ad for the LG on the telly earlier, and wow, it was pretty nice looking.

Was in the Apple store today. Looking throw the settings, you could choose carriers (networks), any info on this GOO? (or anyone with a UK/ 1.1.2 iPhone ?) Though you'd obviously still need to a buy a contract (I know there's always eBay etc...)
