I've got an idea for a desk with a 19" rising monitor but can't find prices for liner actuators in the uk.
Anyone know how long they need to be and how much one cost?

Psychosis by MPCN-tech used one IIRC. Have a search for the worklog and if that doesn't tell you you could email them.

EDIT: I just realised they're in the US although I do recall there being discussion about them.

    EDIT 2: Check ebay.

    Try searching for 'linear actuators'.

Thats actually not too bad - I might have a gander... when I checked, they were £80+

I suppose in a lot of applications you could just use a motor and some gears to a similar effect... but it would be much harder to get right...

You'd be better off getting one instead of two. All you need to do is mount it properly; it should hold.

Don't worry I will use two, hence the need to save up.

And bittech will be first to see the project.

There a several hot tub brands that offer rising TV screens. One of them that I can think of is PolarSpas.

I'd look into buying some 'spare' parts from them - as in see if you can buy just the tv housing and throw in a TFT.

You misread my post. I think one would work fine as long as you mount it properly.

    Also

It's US but I'm sure you can find Cheaper than 50 quid.

Opps appologise, yep I did miss read it.
I am thinking of using channel to support/guide the monitor and fabricate a mounting plate to attach the lcd to the actuator using the standered mounting holes.

Just need to find a way for linux to detect a switch activated when screen is fully up and display a second desktop on that monitor.
