+1. I've reinstalled my MSDNAA copy at least 3 times now. Never had any problems. I seriously doubt Microsoft would write another version of Win 7 just for MSDNAA! And I've not noticed any differences. Much faster and nicer to use than my Vista Ultimate. Got XP mode too with no problems.
Erm. £33 + £8 = £41 for a hard copy. Digital river download is £45. Not only is it cheaper. It's a proper install disk. Thus enabling the "double install" rahter than having to install xp, to wipe XP to install Win 7. no contest IMO
You can burn the non-ISO downloads using command line stuff. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l.html#post320334 And you can full install on new hard drives (no previous OS) with upgrade versions anyway, just install w/o a key first time, then once Win7 is on, insert the disk again and go upgrade install, put your key in and voila. Worked for me
Ive used software4students before and never had any problems. Got Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade edition for £60 IIRC and bought Xp for a fiver from somewhere, windows 7 ultimate for £65 isn't so bad
Clean install if you dont have Vista buisness. it only upgrades to pro. if you have that if not its a custom (clean) install.
It can turn out cheaper to buy and upgrade version then look for an old version of windows XP being flogged off on the cheap. That's what I did. Upgrade versions can also clean install, but you need a version of windoes installed in the first place.
you can do a clean install using upgrade media: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp its a bit of a ballache but then again installing xp would be too.
I got Windows 7 Professional edition from Pugh for ~£40, the confirmation and delivery was very fast. So far no trouble with doing a clean custom install with a new build.
Right I am trying to get this straight, If I buy Win7Pro off one of these student sites, will I be able to do a full/clean? install of Win 7 onto a new hard drive in my computer without touching my xp drive/partition. So afterwards I would be able to dual boot basically? I have tried reading the replies to this thread but I am now very confused
Yes. 1, Boot with upgrade disk and do a custom install do not enter license key when asked just click next. 2, From within windows reinstall doing a upgrade install and enter the license key. 3, Activate on line, Job done. On a side note if you are useing a asus board dont install the EPU-6 engine software untill you have done the second install. A lot of people have found that the software wont work if it was installed before the upgrade one was done.
you dont need to buy XP, just do a custom install and install it from fresh (upgrade media is no different than retail, OEM) dont add your product key just yet. when its loaded activate your windows online job done.
Upgrade version downloads are not the same as retail, they don't have every Win7 version on. They are like OEM, in that the only data on there is for your chosen flavour of Win7.
well not quite. OEM and retail versions contain all the features of the version stated and below. so professional contains all the features of HP too and that can also be installed. so if you have an ultimate OEM disc you can install any windows 7 version in whatever disc you have either 32 or 64. MS state though that all features are installed too and using the anytime upgrade simply unlocks the features. The only reason you would have 1 flavour is if its an MSDAA download or tech-net as they contain only the 1 for which ever you selected
Yeap got this as well for my new rig. Can't beat 35 bucks for Windows 7 and a back up on there server. What what?
