So, I went to open "Killing Floor" and it was in windowed mode. . . no problem. . . happens quite a lot, just press Alt Enter and your away. . . nothing. . . press again. . . nothing. . . then it goes major laggy, then a black screen. . . Everything locks up (besides pausing the still playing song) and then it goes to this nightmare:

Going from that to black to that again every 5 secs, over and over. GFX fan speed sounded about 40-50% too.

Forced restart. . . Try open Killing floor again and i get some weird tearing going across the screen. . . with a sinking feeling I tried BC2 . . . Seems ok. . then weird noises and laggy black flickers :grr:

About to run 3Dmark see what comes up. . .

    Anyone seen this before?

    Ollie

You were so shocked you dropped your spoon.

See if a driver reinstall does anything for you - I assume it's peachy displaying 2d and throws a fit when anything 3d is asked of it?
It could be bad contact between the gpu/memory and the heatsink on the gfx card and perhaps gets too hot, causing the corruption you see onscreen.
Or it could be the memory and/or gpu itself that has given up the ghost running at higher frequencies. It might be worth checking the card itself to see if there are any scorch marks or burnt out circuitry/popped capacitors. Maybe something could even have fallen off.

Thanks for speedy repsonce. . . Yer luckily i had already finished pudding ;)

Did another restart, with power off and had a smoke to pass the time.
When it came alive again. . post said overclocking failed. . . so went into BIOS everything checked out. Loaded up windows fine and seems ok now . . perhaps just a driver bug :p

Good old Windows! Always inventing new ways to think that we have broken our PCs.

There was a blue screen screensaver, so maybe someone will make a 'bleugh-screen' screensaver?

I had a similar bizarre issue opening BF BC2 through steam the other day. It looked as if it was fine opened full screen but started flashing bright white then the loading screens . . . continuously. I narrowly avoided a seizure (jk), it was actually a cool effect but seriously an epileptic person would have had a seizure at the rate the screen was flashing back and forth.

I ctrl+shift+esc and ended the process of steam + BF but that did not prevent it from happening again. I restarted the machine and all has been good since. I imagine it is a problem with Steam as it has always given me grief in the past but BF BC 2 is also a pretty glitchy game.
