hey. yesterday i recieved my dual green cathodes in the mail, and i had some time to play with em last night. the original plan was to put one cathode on each edge of the case, inside, and have a gradient affect. after trying to set this up, i realized that 1: i cant put a cathode on one edge because of the side-locking mechanism (which i use constantly), and 2: because the green's greatly overpower the very old blues i have. while i was wiring, i had the idea to stick them underneath the case, to create the kind of underbody lighting affect that some rally cars have . but i ran into two problems there, too. 1: they were so friggen bright they shined up over the case and made everything look washed out, and 2: they wouldnt both fit between the fixtures for the feet. but, both of those problems are easily solved, and it helped solve the first problems. i put one of the greens underneath, and it created the perfect lighting affect, and i put the other green on the bottom edge inside my case. i moved the blue's up to the top, and so both of them together are about 1/4 the power of 1 green. how sad is that... but anyway, i wanted some feedback on the lighting, so i took a pic as best i could of the underbody light, and here it is: in the picture, the underbody light looks choppy. in reality its a really consistantly graded light. any comments?
It doesn't look too bad, but you are right. The green totally overpowers the blue. I'd probably just get rid of the blue ones. Clanure
There are smaller cathodes as well. That would cut down on some of the lumens which will allow the lower bandwith colors to come down to the middle of the case window. As far as the bottom of the case, some people use EL tape to create a soft glowing effect. You only need one strip on the outward edge (of the case's bottom) if you can't see the other bottom edge.
Yeah I agree about the blue being over powered. What about replacing the blue with a red one. I would buy a big red one and try to mount it in the top of the case. My friend did the same thing with different colors and the look was killer.
hmm..red would be cool, but im afraid i would be tempted to wrap it in tinsel and christmas lights . i was at Best Buy, and of course glanced over to the "Geek Squad" counter (is Geek Squad a national buisness? *googles* i cant tell) anyway, linky if you havent seen em, they're a riot. its a bunch of geeks, completely acting up their geekness, and fixing computers. oh, and driving VW bugs around with "Geek Squad" plastered on the side. did i mention that? i just get i riot outta those guys. anyway. i saw a comp there they were working on with a blue-green cathode lighting effect, and i absolutely loved it. i think my problem is my blues are so old, and have been shorted and zapped and yada yada yada, they're just dying. i may order more, they're just 10 bucks, but right now my priority (over bills and feeding my cat, of course ) is a new hsf and some as5. EDIT: i just thought about this..what is a modded computer doing in a computer-repair place? oh well, i guess everyone has problems they cant fix...i just think it would be not only costly but a serious ego blow to take my rig to a computer repair place, knowing im not good enough for what i created...
