But then the other competitors will find few smaller supporters of their format, just so more people would be confused which blank DVD's to buy... ehhh

my dad alreayd dosnt get the concept of DVD- DVD+ DVD+/- Duel layer....and he's quite found of his electronics, got a 10k stack system in his living room.
I think all these extra formats may infact end up coming back to bite thmeselves in the ass with the wider consumer market.

The idea of surround sound music is frankly stupid.
All the true music lovers have devoted thousands of pounds to true 2 channel audio systems. Cd players still do stero audio better than dvd players, and amps still handle music better than AV reievers (due to dedicated stero once again) Music is ment to be player in stero, and is recorded in stero. Any attmpt to change this would require a mssive overhaul of the industry and make most high end audio equipment useless....surround sound music would not be a smart move.

Unfortunately, there are many non-techie people who are confused by DVD plus / minus R - I felt compelled to help out two Moms I saw in KMart recently, who clearly didn't know what they needed, and certainly weren't going to find the answers from the non-existent Staff.

The timescale certainly doesn't help either. While we had years (decades?) to get used to VHS and cd to build up collections, its only been a couple of years since the DVD explosion and many ppl are still to get used to the format. Bringing out another similar format is bound to cause confusion and lots of ppl will feel that DVD is good enough for them since it aleady supplies good picture and surround sound.

true only now are we actually getting the full use of DVDs with duel layer coming down in price and surround sound figures still going up (5.1 -> now 8.1).

If blu ray discs are most probably going to require brand nu technology, and many are only just investing in DVD, i think its too soon.

I think high density DVD discs are the next logical step, after all we are only now at 16x writes speeds and duel layer, triple layer possible??

Games are only just porting over to DVD now remmeber!

Taken with 800*600 camcorder and then pixel blown up to HDTV Res I suppose? =P Or maybe Mr. Senjor fancy pants has HDCamcorder?

And it take you at least 40hours to burn 400 DVD's with one DVD RW.... Oh and tranfering videos from camcorder to PC, then editing, encoding.... Wow Mr. Senjor, I guess you have a lot of free time and money.

It doesn't matter who signs on to a format, unless people stop making movies on DVD people won't have to or won't want to upgrade up to blu-ray. Blu-ray will eventually come around in the next 4 or 5 years though.

Oh YEs it will, did people stop using CD's before DVD's were introduced...? Hmmmm NO.... Most people in the world did not even understood the concept of DVD untill record/movie copanies pushed the format into the daylight and people were just basically forced to buy DVD players.... At least that is what I think

Agreed, cheap, though I think you may be working with incorrect formats. For instance, there's not much of a reason for people to switch to DVD audio, and they haven't yet. But, they abandoned VHS because record companies pushed the DVD format. DVD just offered many more benefits, and we don't know what little extras blu-ray will add to it.
