It seems just plain WRONG to say earl.... WRONG!! ... WRONG! In any case it's an acronym or what have you like PHP, ASP, HTML (oooh web scripting langs...) but pronouncing each initial seems ... right... dunno why... although I say DOS rather than the initials.... that sounds right... anyway... I'm just plain crazy
LOL we do the same thing... there's an oldish volvo with PHP as the last letters also so far I've seen... EXE, BAT, DOC, COM, DLL, and RTF, my parent's car is MTV which is kinda cool... another thing my friends and I do is see if the numbers on the number plates are a multiple of 9....
play the yellow car game most people play it as 'punch the person nearest to you if you see a yellow car' we evolved it a little... a yellow vehicle which you need a specialist (non-standard-car-) licence for means a hard punch a yello car means a normal punch a spanish car means a hard punch (SEATs...not many people drive any other types of spanish cars...) a yellow SEAT means a REALLY hard punch two yellow SEATS crash into each other and fight club begins nota bene - that last one's happened twice in 2 1/2 years...i broke my wrist the first time and got cracked ribs the second *n
i agree, it does sound wrong. i say D.O.S. when i'm talking about a denial of service attack, but dos when i'm talking about dos.
gooey, dos, asp... fine, all fine... earl != ok PS: Jaz and Lorquis, I envy your lives. You make mine seem so dull and uninteresting...
Hi - let me introduce myself - I'm GEE - OH - OH! GUI - Gooey FTP - EFF TEE PEE URL - YOU ARE ELL FAQ - Hmm - could be FACK or EFF AYE CUE It's odd how some acronyms a prounced as a single word and others are spelled out. It probably has something to do with wether the acronym lends itslef to be 'said' or 'spelled'. For example LAN acctually spells out a pronouncable word, so we don't say ELL AYE EN.
Nah, it just doesn't seem right to me, "gooey". Sounds like something I've just pulled from my nose! I prefer Gee-Yew-Eye and Yew-Are-Ell. Sorry.
mIRC - EMM EYE ARE SEA ... I can't stand people who call it MIRK. AIM - AYE EYE EMM - not "aim"!! That drives me mad too. ICQ - EYE SEA QUEUE (like I Seek You, obviously ) DOS - Dos (as in the Operating System) DoS - Dee Oh Ess (Denial of Service) URL - Ewe Are Ell
Gooey sounds right to me but I sometimes say Gee Yew Eye should the flow take me... But... the others.... mIRC - Mirk, or otherwise for some reason... my eye arse eeee AIM - Ay eye emm, but so fast it sounds like AIM ICQ - eye see queue DOS - Dos - the OS... OS - Oh ess DoS - Dee oh ess URL - Ewe are elle FTP - Eff tee pee FAQ - Efff aye queue LAN - lan WAN - Wan WYSIWYG - whissywig... try saying the letters of THAT! Lorquis go bye bye
