I can see a pattern "materializing" here: if, in three-letters acronyms, the middle-letter is a vowel, it is mostly pronounced as one word: RAM: like in ramp without the trailing P ROM: same BAT: like the superhero we all love DOS: does, but without the e GIF: giff, like Hwulex said

Whats really weird is that we actually have phonetic spelling for letters... Kinda weird huh? IE:URL is phonetically Yew Are Elle, but that spelling is made up of letters! Get it? Its late and im prob not explaining this well, but how can we phonetically spell letters, and then use DIFFERENT letters?!?!
