Just thought I would get you guys opinion on this one. We had a Acer laptop come back from a customer where they had forgotten their Windows login password and also they had a BIOS password which they had forgotten. Is there a way of recovering the password without changing the motherboard?

P.S. we tried removing the cmos battery from the laptop.

Unless you can find a manufacturer password, then probably not buddy. Sorry :(
(we had the same problem at work, but the laptop was still in warranty with dell, so we dragged a 9V battery over the motherboard and phoned it in as a dead mobo ;))

If the battery pull doesn't clear it the easiest way is to flash the bios. Alternately there is a bios password clear utility on the UBCD.

    What model?

I've come across a couple of laptops with BIOS and HDD password, they had a part on the mobo you "short" clearing the BIOS like a CMOS reset

There may be either jumpers or switches on the board as well as the battery.
