Im bored time to rant I might get flamed for this but don't you think there seems to be alot of new born nerds that don't fully grasp the power of what they currently have?? Searching through videos on the mpd26 last night i seem to merge into videos about Macs through studio videos. I stumbled across a kid must have been 12 who was making a rant about "Old tech" now theres going to be a few that might agree with this kid and hopefully a few that will look back into there childhood to there first computer, and realize how much ******** he really talks. Now there seems to be a new wave of social media nerds that are powered by the Apple fanboy, you know the ones that post videos about the new happening in the apple world? update there twitter from there iphone every 10 minutes and write the same thing they just posted a video about on there blog(s) with no readers. Consider most of these kids are browsing the web no extreme number crunching, rendering or gaming etc.... This kid considered a dual 1.8ghz system almost useless like it was back in the stone age that he could'nt imagine having to use such a slow system. Im trying to find the video but after deleting my history its not that easy. Yet i could still do that stuff (Not as fast granted) on an old 533mhz pc just fine... Im not sure where im going with this rant.....
No i totally agree. Problem with these "kids" is that they are quite often also teenagers, and thus already think they know everything. And as they know everything, of course they can comment on technology being bad when they were merely ideas. He is wrong though. Old tech has its place. My grandad for one is quite happy with a number of my old bits and pieces. I appreciated, clock for clock efficiency's are naturally improving, but that doesn't mean at all, a 1.8ghz dualie is crap. I mean, in my studio at home, I am only running a 2ghz dualie (it is oc'd to 3ghz) - and that computer does heaps and heaps of audio work, and never really skips a beat. I think, the problem is ignorance and arrogance. Would like to appear to be the font of knowledge, would like to prepare a pretty forceful (and falsifying) debate. Standard teenager stuff
Soneone in the Internet (youtube, no less) was wrong? STOP THE ****ING PRESS! Take it easy, some people just don't grasp what's needed for any given task, or just happen to like going over the top with their purchases. Nothing new there.
I'll never agree with the stereotype that teenagers think they know everything. Just considering that I am one, and am disgusted to love in a generation of such shallow people... Back on topic: I do agree with the fact that people of my age have no respect for the technology they are using. I actually become angry when people expect the cheapest dell they find to be all singing- all dancing. When I built my computer, I din't go crazy either. I just wish people would step back and think "what do I need from this computer?" It makes me sick that people will spend 2 grand on an Alienware PC because it "looks good." Personally, I think I'm running an excellent machine up here in my room (Phenom X6 1055t @ stock, GTX 460), but unlike a lot of others, I can live with the "age" of the computers at school. Bottom line: Teenagers caught in the loop of being a consumer will always think like this, they can only gain some respect when they find out how these things are made and if they do it themselves.
in that case, my 1GHz iPad would be great. im sure they would agree wholeheartedly. im not sure where im going with this either..... speaking of old tech, my Dad would not let go of his Sempron 2800+ skt 745 machine. after i built him a shiny PhenomII x6. the single core Sempron handles websites (without Flash/script) flawlessly. and also, i would not let my mum throw my first computer away, an Athlon XP machine with Geforce 4 Ti graphics card! not the cheap Geforce 4 Mx, it's high end Ti. there should be a computer museum....... Geforce 4 Ti, Radeon 9700, Athlon 64, Intel 8081....
Pun intended? I'm 18 and agree with everything you just said. I do run a Macbook, but thats because I love the OS and the build quality is superb. It is now 3 years old and running a 2.4ghz C2D. I have given it 4 Gigs of RAM and an SSD but pre this it was still fast. I also have a Pentium 3 machine that still works, and if I needed another machine it would be put to use. I would use it as a file server but it makes a racket and isn't very power efficient. I think because people don't look after what they have, they just assume that the item is terrible. They assume that everything should just work for them and if it doesn't then its useless. I wonder do these people have a toilet that wipes their ass for them?
This is the first ever rant about teenagers I've ever seen :/. We don't use crap because there is no point, I've never had a single core pc and when I went on my aunty's netbook it was in a word: crap, it just took so long to do anything!
I'm a teen, but I get where you are coming from. The number of kids in my school who buy a Mac or Alienware, and then just use it for facebook horrifies me
I reckon half of it's to do with marketing. They're buying into the "OMG it's got over 9000Ghz!!!!!!111!!! It'll do your homework and then get you laid". They haven't got a clue about it. In fairness nor have I, my first CPU was a E6600, but I've used P4 (College) to render in 3DsMAX, and whilst it wasn't the fastest out there it was fine. So, basically they're sat in Starbucks, making a vlog about about how crap old hardware is. Hmmm, okay. Why exactly do they need their i7 MacBooks? To look good? **** off. Someone I used to know was a graphic designer, used to do all his work on an old G3 Mac IIRC, it was something like a 333Mhz Power PC CPU. I was shocked at the time, but there was no need to upgrade. Meh, I have no idea where I was going with that.
But thats what i mean kinda Its not a rant about teenagers really because at 19 people would probebly consider me a teenager still But the fact kids expect something to happen instantly i have some athlon 64 systems do i consider them old? nope because there over a 1ghz they work great a fresh install of xp and i can do the same things as my quad does, would i throw them out? hell no thats perfectly good computing power right there. I admit my quad 60% of the time is overkill for me unless im really pushing it i had a time where i wanted to upgrade but honestly the only difference i would notice is the case and slipping it into my desk i would'nt see the damn thing anyway!! My first PC was a old Cyrix 2 when i was about 7 my dad tinkered with old machines and i had that ratty old thing till i was about 11 the thing is the computer did what i wanted it to go on the internet and look at funny pictures of cats..... i still have it somewhere because the thing works.... it never died on me it constantly worked no matter what Kids seem to be going more for bragging rights and have no idea the system they have infront of them and the potential it really has other than ****ing twitter...
I remember the first computer I had was a Compaq 533MHz thing, and I don't think I could use it in modern applications. My little brother has Autism and started getting impatient with our old (P4 3GHz) machine after using the Quads at college.
My first proper pc was a 386SX25. I then upgraded to a 486DX4-100 machine. Back then they didn't seem slow at all and I was rather pleased with them. Playing populous, the memories. The media centre I have has an old socket 939 x2 processor and its doing fine, I'm in the process of changing it over to a E6400. The kids of today have been only ever known multicore, gigahertz processors. I would love to give them something from my childhood and see how long it would be before they were "bored" or broke it!
Is this not one of the biggest clichés ever? "Oh man, kids nowadays, they just don't know they're born do they? They take everything for granted. They know the price of everything but the value of nothing. Where's the respect? I blame the parents..." Lighten up grandad - life's relative.
Alright! calm down Cliff Richard! As you may have noticed i made the point i was 19 im hardly expirienced myself
Sorry didn't mean to be a cliche. You are right, it is relative. That's why that will always be a cliche. I just think you appreciate things more when you're older.
i know ehat you mean the kids of todays modern world have no idea of what they have , just because they think what they have is the dogs danglies they dont understand what is involved to get to what they have nor do i believe that they care i started proper pc'ing on a pentium 2 and i agree that what i have got now is a darn sight better to what i had, needless to say i dont regret what i had or try to forget the good times i had with it. P.S. would love to see this video just so i can put some comments on his video
The point is that I've never had the "joy" of a p4 system and I can guess that many at my school haven't either. I don't see why we would buy an old pc when you could get a new one.
*Turns on arrogant teenager mode* "My entire post has been skipped and other people's posts have said exactly the same thing as me while receiving a more positive response. I sit on my arse with a £2000 alienware to say I took a **** on twitter. I hate my generation. And if wanted, my previous post: I'll never agree with the stereotype that teenagers think they know everything.
