Yes, i have seen that link, what type of acrylic would you recomend getting from there, as there are several types, i presume 3mm is the thickness to be used..

my current all acrylic case uses 8mm and 5mm thick, but it depends weather you are going all acrlic, and how you intend to fix drives to the machine.

3mm thick would not take the weight of 2 optical devices and 2 IDE devices without showing signs of strain. unless you use a good method of fixing the drive bays to other parts of the case.

    GS = Cast acrylic

    XT = Extruded acrylic

use cast it's easyer/better to work with and has much better finish than extruded.

also may i ask how much modding/DT related experiance you have???, because for someone with the intention of building an entire case from scratch (definatly not for the first time modder, and even more so out of acrylic since its not the easyest of materials to make a case from) you dont seem to know an awful lot about what to do. its just the feel i get from your posts :D

My normal mods have been very much smaller, but having use acrylic at school, and having the schools worshop open for use i thaught it would be about time to make an awsome PC case.

Designs comming soon, spent some time at school drawing and then computerising the designs

well my advice is be VERY acurate, and be carefull with the acrylic, cos if u scratch it you will be pissed.

you dont realy need Plexi Point Drill Bits (espcaily if using school pillar drills), use standard, but make sure you make a sutiable pilot hole/holes and drill slowly.

ok, i read somewere to blunt the drills, Mr Nelson will be pleased to know there is a use for is blunt drills!

    Any other tips?

I have source the software they have at school, so i can finnish of the designs tomorrow.
I believe they have a CAD controlled plastic milling machine, should be good for the back pannel.

I think I will write an Acrylic case guide, for numpties like me answearing all the stupid questions i have asked.

"I believe they have a CAD controlled plastic milling machine, should be good for the back pannel."

wow i will be suprised if you have a milling machine that big. espcaily at a school.

my only tip atm would be to let the people see the designs on here befor you start cutting up your materials :D

also how are you intending on fixing the case together? glue or other fixings?

I am planning on using a combination of glue (on peices with a large surface are, eg the HD caddy) and glue with fixings, probably acrylic cubes im hoping to create.

Not sure how this is coing to work, i will probably end up running off some screws etc on the lathes at school.

The idea with this case is all origional fabrication.

    Hi all, well matt :p
Have finnished the designs, tho i have to measure the sizes for cutouts at the back, hoping to mount 2 PSU one for watercooling lights etc and one for the PC.

And i definatly have space for one :) 3 holes at front are for the radiator, there will probably be a blow hole in top. Any way:

Would love your feedback and questions,

Thinking about coulors tho i reckon it will involve blue seeing as front and Motherboard tray are UV reactive Blue.

this realy is turning into our own private thread :D

    like the CAD (pro desktop?)

i like the looks of the design and have some qu's

are you going to attach acrylic that holds all your drives to the top as well? because if you do it will greatly increase the ridgeity and strength of the case.

are you going to make standoffs for the HDD's/ Floppy drives so that the width is the size of the optical drives all the way down?? imo it looks much cooler like this because the hdd's look like there floating.

what method are you going to use for fixing the blanking plates?

are you going to have a removeable mobo tray?

just an idea- how about mounting your 2 PSU's on the bottem of the case, and have the Mobo at the top, this means you have to worry less about the strength of the case, it will IMO look better and will make construction easyer.

PSU at bottem sounds pretty awsome!

Not sure what you mean about the acrylic supporting the drivebays, ip thinking possible attaching it to the side, i was thinking of this..

I Am also going to create standoffs for the HDD. And there will be space fo 6 opticals drives, im hoping to get an LCD in there too.

The design was done in pro desktop.

There will be a plate for the Mainboard IO holes, which i can mill at school, play wth the schools new tools, alos meand when i change Mainboard i can change the back plate.. PCI will be a big hole, slots on motherboard and a 90* peice of acrylic for them to screw into, tho there is an idea i say on another case, with one screw and a plate securing all.
