I've got two 2407WFP's that I've owned since about 2006 and I was starting to think about upgrading but was going to wait for the next gen Dell's. If this is the case then I guess I'll be looking around for something new that isnt Dell in another 4-6 months then :(

Its still not ideal and I definitely wouldnt want a black bar playing cod. Anyway, I was asking thats all. It would definitely be off-putting for a lot of xbox and ps3 players if all 24" screens were 16:10

If there was a black bar I meant. Obviously that was too hard for you to read

And that was exactly what I was referring to. I can see how disturbing and visually impairing it can be to have to avoid looking at black borders.

    Wait.

Complaining over having more is something I really do have trouble understanding.

I can't think of too many scenarios where someone would want to hook up a console to a professional PC monitor, but FYI i've used my 360 on a 16:10 screen and there are no black bars, it just stretches 1080p to fill the whole thing.

It depends on the monitor. Some have 1:1 pixel mapping and won't scale the image to fit the screen, while others don't (like yours) and will stretch the image to fit the screen. Most higher end monitors have this feature, though my 2209WA doesn't (the stretched image never really bothered me that much anyway TBH).

Picarro - No it wasnt, you was implying that I was saying that its bad to have more desktop screen space with a 16:10 aspect ratio - I wasnt saying that atall. I was saying that alot of people who buy 24" monitors use them for PS3 and 360 aswell as for their PC, and I wouldnt like it if it displayed a black bar in the extra 120 pixels (if it does that, i was 'asking' if you didnt already know).

i'm sure it mostly comes down to the panel manufacturers. why make both 16:9 and 16:10 when you can go to 16:9 only and use the same panels in both televisions and computer monitors. seeing how that can only maximize their profits by making fewer sizes and types of panels - reducing set up and retooling.
switch to leds is only going to get more common as well as they are also much cheaper to produce than ccfl. it also allows for a thinner enclosure whereby less material also equals lower cost to produce. its a big win for the manufacturer reducing costs all across the board. if we're lucky they may pass some of the savings on to consumers.

How many 24" TVs do you see, it seems like 32 is the most cost effective "small" size TV nowadays. Plus most 16:10 monitors are IPS so we are already paying a premium for that so why not make us happy and continue to make IPS 16:10s

Maybe Samsung's new monitors based on its new S-PLS technology will come to our rescue. Apparently the 24" model will be 16:10 while the 27" model is obviously 16:9. Then again, they might just be crap.

    Gah! 16:9 sucks!

Someone should start an underground 16:10 resolution movement or something. I hope this trend doesn't spread to the 30" monitor range.

Perhaps... but I heard the same story with cPVA... which ended up being more crapPVA than anything.

I've got a 24" 16:9 1920x1080 panel (Asus VH242H, for me its fine. Before this I used a 22" 16:10 (1680x1050 panel highest res, manual said it was 16:10.. But I only used it 1-2 times as a monitor as its my TV too)

Really I prefer my 24", ofc cause its bigger :p But the extra 100 odd lines really would do nothing for me imo. but of course for some it does matter so should be accomidated for. If I was to get a new bigger monitor i'd likely have gone for a 16:10 to see what the fuss is about.

Oh the joys of people debating things which are, when it all boils down, personal preference.

Personally, I like 16:9 because the annoyance of black bars outweighs the advantage of extra vertical space, but that doesn't make anyone else wrong for preferring 16:10.

Just a shame that the market is getting so lop-sided so people aren't as free to choose.

Live and let live goes out the window when manufacturers decide to only offer one type.

When you put it that way the situation really is live and let die. We're the bigger market share and are just letting your little 16:10 niche fade into oblivion! :p
