Hi all. Come the end of the month and it will be time for me to invest in an upgrade I thinks. My main concern is that since going up to a 24" 1900 * 1080 monitor, my GTX 285 is showing it's age. Every now and again the nVidia driver drops our and resets itself, indicative that it's on it's way out. Which is annoying as gaming is my biggest past-time. (DOW2, Fallout3, Dragon's Age, Empire Total War, Metro 2033, STALKER Call of Pripyat, SupComm, The list goes on...) I recently got myself a new DSLR and find myself dabbling in Photoshop more and more, so an extra 4Gb RAM would be nice. I'd like a SSD, but it's by no means critical. The budget is around the £375 mark, £400 at a push. I was stuck between a GTX570 Phantom + C300 SSD, or a GTX 580. Now, I see GTX480s go for £200! I fancy one of them, with an extra 4Gb RAM and the SSD. I'm stuck. Is throwing money after old cards like the 480 silly? Or is it a worthwhile investment? I'm not currently interested in upgrading the CPU and Motherboard to a SandyBridge rig as i want to see what Bulldozer and 2011 bring to the table. My current rig is in my sig. So people, if you were in my position, what would you do with ~£400?
570 GTX- 250 pounds SSD- 90 pounds Ram- 80 pounds Total: 420 pounds. you can sell you current ram aswell bringing it under the 400 pound mark. Might be worth buying the 560 either as stated in the above post. Also the new SSd's are just around the corner.
Will a 560 manage 1900*1080 with 16*AA? I forgot to mention I really like to turn the AA up. That's probably what's killed the 285 Doesn't the GTX 480 just have the edge over the 560 with more memory and a 384-bit memory interface?
Like i said, the SSD isn't critical, so i'm willing to wait for one. I was pretty fixed on the Phantom 570, but with the bog standard one going for £250 it's worth looking at.
