If you had the following and wanted to upgrade your system board and cpu (and ram).

    What would you get?

I am thinking of going 980SLI in near future once I lose the 7880ti

    Mother board:
    P8Z68-V PRO
    CPU: i7 2600k

Not much difference between an 780ti and an 980 really.. Id just get a second 780ti and save yourself a few hundred quid.

X99 is great but DDR4 is mega bucks and none of the X99 CPUs hold any real advantages over the previous gen or haswell unless your going for mega number crunching to which you need to spend £1k+ on the CPU.

Id get an Z97 board of some description, some fast DDR3 and a 4790K. Youll be around £1k better off and barely any slower in your system over all unless you plan on ripping blu-rays and encoding other video sources.

Remember the 5820k only has 28 PCIE lanes, so you'll be no better off regarding SLI than with a Z97 system. You need the 5930k to get the 40 PCIE lanes for multiple GPUs. that immediately adds at least £150 to the cost of the system
