    Hi all.

A friend has asked me whether they should upgrade their current notebook or buy a new one.
The main purpose is mainly office/work use and internet browsing.

    Specs of the current notebook.

    Hewlett-Packard 530 Notebook PC
    CPU: Intel Celeron M 420 (1.6GHz)
GPU: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset
    RAM: 1GB, 2×512MB DDR2
    HDD: 80GB Toshiba
OS: MS Vista Home Basic (32-bit)

My initial thought was to put Win 7 on it and upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but looking more into it, a new notebook seems a better choice (current notebook only supports ATA HDD, no 64-bit OS support).

Any advise or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Probably best to get a new one, but it's going to come down to budget in the end.

That's pretty old and slow - even an i3 laptop would be quite a bit faster than that.

That said Win 7 + 4GB of RAM would make the current one usable at a much lower cost so its all in the budget I guess.
