Hey all, I'm about to do a update to my current system. I am updating this month to: CPU - i5-2500k MOBO - MSI P67A-GD53 8 Gigs of 1,600 Ram 120gb SSD (either Crucial M4 or OCZ Vertex 3 , haven't decided which yet, any advice?) My current GPU is a Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB card and the PSU is a Corsair TX650 PSU The Graphics card seems to be the next logical upgrade although its not something I can afford right this minute. I wanted to know if the 460 might be a bottle neck on the system gaming @ 1920x1200 and what the next logical upgrade would be from it. Would it worth holding out to save up for a 570/580 card instead of just going up from a 460 to a 560ti. I noticed the increase in performance, while isn't bad, might not be worth spending the money on yet. Hence my thoughts about saving up for a 570+ The other concern would be with the bigger card would I need to replace the PSU again or should be alright to handle all that? Thanks all for any advice
For the SSD, you can't go wrong with either. Crucial SSD's seem to be very reliable compared to some other brands and a firmware update has boosted the read/write speeds of current users. At 1920 x 1200, if you want AA and the like maxed out, then you definitely need to upgrade the GPU. A 570 is a good choice and the extra RAM will help a lot at that resolution with the details maxed. If you can save up for a 2.5GB 570 that would be even better. I have a 580 with the standard amount of RAM at 1.5GB and I play at 1920 x 1200 with maximum possible details and it handles the game exceptionally well. However a 570 would be an ideal choice given that it's performance can be compared to a stock 580 when its OC'd.
A quick overclock might help tide you over for a while(until either you buy a 570/580 or the next gen's come out). My GTX 460 is a good 10% faster than a stock GTX 470. Unless you're heavily overclocking the system, then the TX650 should be more than enough, even with a 580.
I was aiming to overclock the cpu to about 4.4/4.6ish and probably push the graphics card to about 800mhz on the core. Need to do more research into this first though The 570 seems to offer more bang for buck then if its clockable to 580 stock speeds then I guess. thanks for the advice p.s I was leaning towards the Crucial due to the latest firmware update seemed to indicate it was probably the best all-rounder atm
A 650w PSU would be sufficient for an overclocked 2500k and a single overclocked GPU. A 570 is a brilliant performer and recent reviews have shown that is averages around 60fps for BF3 with the maximum settings. Iirc the 60fps is with a stock 570 .
Your welcome mate . Get a WATT monitor just in case to check how much power your components draw at load. This will enable you to determine whether or not you have enough head room to warrant an overclock. I know a few people who run 570's sli'd on a 750w system with an overclocked 2500K@4.6GHz so a 650W should be sufficient for a single 570. Just thought I'd give you some more reassurance .
