I'm upgrading my computer to a core i7 4790k (new mb as well) I currently have 8GB G.Skill 1600mhz in my computer, is it worth buying 8gb of Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 2400mhz? Will it make much of a difference?

Sorry, I've been out of the game for a while!

Very very unlikely that you'll notice any difference apart from in a handful of very specialised tasks. I'd spend the money elsewhere - perhaps a bigger SSD or put it towards a GPU upgrade or something.

Right I agree, higher frequency doesn't make as much difference. I wouldn't bother buying different memory unless you wanted to get a 16GB kit or something, and then I would recommend getting a lower CL instead still as that is a little more noticeable.
You should certainly be able to get at least a 240GB SSD for around the same price, or maybe get close to a 2nd gtx680 from used market if you wanted to SLI.

Thanks for the replies, if that's the case with the ram then I wont bother buying new modules. I've already decided to go for the Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB.

My rig has changed slightly since then as well. I now have a Corsair HX850 psu, 2tb hard drive and the NZXT H440 Special edition.
