I am looking at getting some upgrades for Christmas. My current system is in my sig. What should I get to upgrade it for about $600? I was thinking a Barton 2500+, Asus nForce 2 Mb, pc-3200 RAM, and then one of the newer Radeon cards. This system will be used for gaming namely RTCW.
i can say get the new ATI 9800 card it looks very good and im sure with all the other upgrades your doing it will be a very very good gaming pc!
Hey, Robbie...Could you shrink your sig a little, please? Perhaps put it in tags and put more than one item per line. *n
Any real upgrade you do at the moment isn't going to make a huge difference. However a shiny new 9800 Pro will keep you ogign for a while and is futureproof for the newest dx9 games coming out. Otherwise a WD Raptor hard drive will certainly give your systema more responsive feel.
I am wondering if this proccesor will work in my current motherboard? AMD ATHLON XP 2700+ OEM. I have decided to buy these upgrades if the above procc works: AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 512 mb PC-2700 Corsair XMS extreme Radeon 9500 PRO 128 mb Saphire Pioneer DVD burner
I finnaly got my system upgrade layed out: Asus Nforce 2 Ultra mb AMD athlon barton xp 2800 2x 256 mb PC-3200 Corsiar XMS Sapphire Radeon 9800 SE 128 mb Pioneer DVD burner Logitech Elite keyboard All for $673 shipped from newegg. I hope this allows me to run AA and AF in RTCW now. My system currently just can't keep up with it once there is a lot of action with 4x aa and 8x af at 1280x1024. I may not get everything on this list but I will probably get the mb, RAM, and vid card. The proccesor is kinda a "only if I can" part.
A few things I would change on that list: get the Abit NF7-s mobo - much better overlcocker and has plenty of added features. You probably wont need a 2800+ since you can overlcock most 2500+ to 3200+ speeds anyway. Also I'm not sure how much real world difference you will see coming from a 2200+ Sapphire Radeon 9600 xt - around the same price but better performance.
but I think he is going for the 2800 as the 2500s are multi locked now, as I have heard, meaning even the nForce 2 can't unlock them
I was gonna get the 9600XT but it's out of stock at newegg right now and I want this for Christmas. The 9800SE was the next best thing I could see. The biggest reason I am upgrading to the 2800 is because my AMD Athlon xp 2200+ is not a very overclocker at all. I try ocing it about 3mhz and it still wouldn't boot no matter what I did. Plus I think that this system will be more balanced as far as performance goes. My 2200+ might not bring out the full power of my 9800. Not really sure if this is true or not.
