Just wanted to check with you guys if this was a good idea for an upgrade from my i5-750. It's a few years old and starting to get problems, so I wanted to upgrade to this: CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H RAM: 8GB Corsair DDR3, PC3-17066 (2133), 11-11-11-27 Putting this together with the GTX 560Ti which is already in my current machine and is newer than the CPU and Mobo. Machine is mainly used for gaming, with a bit of video-editing here and there. Also planning on overclocking with the new system, something I didn't do before. Is this a good idea for an upgrade or is there something with better bang for buck I should be considering? I don't have a set budget for this, but I'd rather not spend more than £180-200 for the CPU. Thanks guys.
Hey Raz, If I were you, I'd go for the newer Haswell parts (the i5 4570k). This will probably be the same price as the component you're looking at, just more powerful as it's current generation. Obviously you'll need to change the mobo to suit this, and check that your PSU is Haswell compatible! Regards, Fuus
That sounds like a good idea, but the Z77-G3H mobo is currently on sale and £45 cheaper than the equivalent Haswell socket mobo. From the benchmarks it doesn't seem that the performance gain is worth the extra money, but I could be missing something?
Even better, try and pick up an i5 2500k to go with that Z77-G3H because the 3570k runs as hot as a volcano. The market price is about £100 for a 2500k. If you get a good chip and overclock it to 5GHz then any 'performance boost' will be negliable.
