Hi guys, nedd advice on what card to buy,ive got i5 750cpu,3gb ram,bfg 880gtx and runing on 1680x1050 monitor at the moment,like to play games on max settings,what should i upgrade to?my choices are these 2: gtx 570 or 560ti 448.which one would be better to get?is it worth getting new one 680gtx?thanks for advice
Both of those would fit your system quite nicely, I would like to add the AMD 7870 as a card to consider. At your resolution a 680gtx will be a complete waist as the cheaper ones will run everything at your resolution so you won't notice the difference between the 560ti and the 680, despite the difference in price. going for the 680GTX, AMD7970 and the 7950 is simply not worth the extra premium as the others will do the job and a bit more. While you are at it you may want to by another two or four gig of RAM as that would make a difference you would feel on a daily basis, far more than going for a 680 and cheaper too I am almost in the same situation as I am upgrading from my ageing 4870 and personally I am going for the 7870, but prices here in DK is a bit different so I will let others give you tips from a British perspective.
thanks for adviece,i have 3gb because i built the system 2 years ago and it was enough for me,should i consider getting 12 gb of ram?regards the card i might upgrade to a better monitor,so i want to be sure that after monitor upgrade i wont be looking for new video card as wellid say ill go for 560ti and 12gb of ram then.
Go for the 570, the 448 core 560 is too close in price to the 570 and the 570 will always be the better GPU. Plus it has more vRAM Oh and I agree on the 7870, not sure on pricing though. Will look now. Edit: Though the 7870 is the better card, it's £55 more (cheapest to cheapest) than the 570 on Scan.
Yeah, the 448 core 560TI is now around the normal 384 core 560TI so you might as well get that. 12GB would be overkill, hardly any game uses more than 4GB, you could either use the extra you save from the graphics card to get another GB of ram or even 8GB in total if you are feeling flush (I presume with 3 GB you only have one slot spare so you'd have to get either 4x2GB chips or 2x4GB chips). If you decide to get the additional 1GB then make sure it has at least the same or lower timings, and/or the same or higher frequency. Also the same voltage.
As Deders said, 12GB is massive overkill. To add on to that, it won't be in dual channel mode so you'll be losing memory bandwidth. On an 1156 system, you should always try and get even multiples of two for memory If you're upgrading monitor, I would certainly suggest the 570. vRAM usage is becoming more of an issue. 1GB vRAM cannot run BF3 on Ultra properly, so spending a bit more on the graphics card would be well worth it in my opinion.
Then the 570 would be the better one, the difference here is £30 making it a much closer call. and then I would rather have the bit better future proofing and the two gig VRAM. I don't think you would feel the difference between running eight or twelve gigs of RAM, personally I would go for a set of two four gig chips, saving room for more if you really feel like going for twelve gigs.
It's really better to go in 2x4gb sticks for RAM rather than mixes. This way you can upgrade more easily to 16 when it becomes necessary. I've got 4x2gb in my desktop and it's really annoying, I'm kicking myself for not doing 2x4, as if I want 16 (which I do now that I need more RAM for 3D animation), I have to toss all my old RAM in order to upgrade.
I would suggest you get a gtx570, its a great card for that resolution, and like others have said, the extra vram will come in handy. As for ram, I'm using 8gigs right now and my ram is almost 50% used when I use my pc for gaming and music listening. So you might see a little improvement when upgrading, but 12gb wll be to much unless you do some photoshop or movie editing
I just have a thought maybe its worth waiting couple of weeks hoping that 570 will drop in price?is it worth waiting?
was looking at the prices and benchmarks,and noticed that gtx 480 has very close performance to 570 but is nearly 100 euros cheaper ,maybe it is a better choice?
If your case has enough airflow to deal with the heat then sure the 480 would be a good choice. The 570 has the same amount of shaders and almost the same clock speeds but a more efficient cooling system so it wouldn't be as loud.
I speak from experience Deders as I went from tri-SLi 8800GTX's to 2 570GTX's ****ing best move I've made in years.
GTX 570 in a single configuration would be one hell of a jump. 2x GTX 570s would be amazing. Also you can wait for the GTX670 which should arrive in shortly.
