Hey guys, So I'm currently running an AMD Phenom II X2 550 @ 3.75GHz (dual core, 3.1GHz stock) and a GTX260, playing at 1920x1080. I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 560. But, I'm not sure just how much performance increase I'll see. In general, according to MSI afterburner/task manager, most games put equal stress on CPU and GPU (e.g. Fallout NV puts them both to 100% usage). But the game I play most, Bad Company 2 (and soon to be Battlefield 3 hopefully) is a totally different story. On 32 player maps, CPU is stuck on 100% whereas even on high settings my GPU sticks to 40-50% usage. So, it would appear that my CPU is the bottleneck. I get around 25 FPS average with maybe 20 fps minimum. So, do you reckon I'd see any increase in performance in upgrading my GTX260 to a GTX560 or will the bottleneck mean that there is no difference whatsoever? Of course, I plan on upgrading my CPU in the not so distant future too, but I'd like to know what kind of performance increase I'd get (if any) from a graphics card upgrade. Cheers!
BF3 Will run fine on that CPU its the GFX you want to upgrade. Something like a 560 GTX would br great.
Alright guys, thanks for the replies. So now that I think I'm fairly set on buying a GTX 560 (probably this one) I have to think about power requirements. I have a Corsair CX400 (400W) PSU, and other than the video card I have an AMD Phenom II X2 550 @3.7GHz (3.1GHz stock, had to up the voltage to around 1.5V) 2x2 sticks of 2GB 1.8V RAM, couple of hard drives. I would imagine getting a GTX 560 on a 400W PSU would be a bit of a squeeze, but would it be possible & stable? Having to upgrade to a 500W PSU would push my upgrade back a little bit further.
Spend a few quid more on the Gfx card and get the Asus version =). You can get the lower clock one.. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-...830mhz-shader-1660mhz-384-cores-mhdmi-plusfre And overclock it using msi after burner.
Your PSU should be fine. If you can, go for a 560ti! The ASUS 560ti modd1uk recommended is a good one. OC that and you're ready to go!
ye id imagine ud be ok, i think ull be pretty happy with that setup, mind if you go quad core or bigger gpu u may want to up the psu to a bigger one, a corsair hx 650w would be good choice! Good Luck ! Happy Gaming !
This may come in handy: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...k=view&id=683&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=15 560 Ti actually uses less juice.
I was using a GTX 260 a month ago on that rez. Went to a GTX 570, runs Bf3 pretty much max with good fps. GTX 560ti should do about the same, just a bit less AA and shadows on medium and the odd high instead of ultra here and there (just tweaking) to get a solid FPS on the bigger maps.
Nvidia are refreshing the 560Ti putting it closer to a GTX 570. Might be an idea to hold fire on an upgrade for a little longer to see how that card turns out. Might even help push down prices of the 560Ti available now.
I think its due before Xmas, in time for all the extra seasonal sales. A few more details here: http://www.guru3d.com/news/nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-to-be-upgraded-to-448-cuda-cores/
