    The PSU

    The GTX 560

Should be here on friday. In the mean time I want to test my current card so I have something to compare the new one to. Any suggestions on demanding games? So far I have thought of crysis and farcry 2.

Im thinking about overclocking my CPU but according to the guides I can't raise the FSB much higher than my ram supports, without stability issues or altering other things and Im trying to keep it simple for the moment at least.

The problem is Im using 2 different kinds of ram. The 2 1GB sticks that came with my PC and the 2 2GB ocz pc2 8500 platinums I added a year or so ago. I looked at the sticker on the side of the sticks and the older ones say 667 which seems to be the ram speed. The OCZ ram on the other hand didn't have anything that was obviously the speed so I googled it and found from the OCZ website that they are 1066 :(.

I thought I should seek some expert advice before continuing.

What would you suggest I do? remove the older ram and just go with 4GB? mess with the other settings like the FSB:ram ratio? or quit while Im ahead?

yeah, 4GB is plenty for gaming, does your ram work in dual channel with uneven ram sticks?

Hey Russ, I've just upgraded from a 8800GT to a 560, and I'm sure you'll be as delighted as me with yours. I also have a 650W power supply, which fortunately has two 6/8pin GPU cables. Hooking it all up really is as straightforward as can be, though you'll need to remove an extra blanking plate from the rear of your case since the GPU is a dual slot design.

My advice would be to download the latest drivers from nVidia now. When your new card and PSU are installed your machine will boot as normal but your display resolution will probably be borked. At this point run your new driver (don't bother with the installation disc that'll come with your card) and it'll take care of everything. You may want to select the "clean install" option to remove all traces of your 8800 driver.

You may then find that your audio is coming from your monitor via HDMI/DVI, in which case go into the Windows control panel and choose your soundcard as the default audio device.

Then, simply enjoy all your games, videos, pornography or whatever! :)

Let us know how it goes.

    Cleggy.

Erm don't really know CPU Z says dual but I don't know if that means its running in dual or if it is just capable of doing so.

    How do I check?

Would normally say in the post screen before windows boots, but if CPUz says so then i'm 90% confident that it is, good to know that.

Its seems that while removing the ram I killed 3 LEDs in the side fan :(

Also I overclocked my fsb from 340 straight to 400 and when I started orthos CPU test the temp went from around 40 to 60 in about 2 seconds but then it seemed to stay there for about a minute before I chickened out, stopped the test and dropped it down to 350.

Hi Sorry to hijack a thread but its a simple question, I was going to get this card and the Nvidia website says min PSU is 500w NOT 600W? I have a Corsair VX550,will I have to change it?

    Thanks

You'll be fine unless you're running a really heavy rig with lots of HDDs, expansion cards, a massive OC, etc.

The figure on the website has to acount for a PSU's with varying quality, a good one like yours wil have no problems, especially as it has one large 12v rail.

Quick question. There is some sort of connector on the end of a cable that has got the 3 moxlex connections on it. Is it important? and where does it go?

EDIT: abit more info, it's quite thin and it looks like there is 4 slots for pins to go into.

I tried it without that other connector and it is working fine and I can now play crysis warhead on max settings :D. I've never been so happy to see shadows :p.

So a big thanks to all that have helped.:rock:
