do you think i should get a new graphics card aswell?
whats the new mod cons to have nower days?
i use it for playing games mostly but i want the graphics set to full but run at a decent frame rate.

i dont need ram or a new hard drive and stuff just motherboard, cpu and graphics card.
i was looking at thoses geforce cards with sli, how good is that.
and those motherboards with the cooling pipes on, they look sound.

    I would say that you should go with a SKT 939 3800+ dual-core + an ASUS A8N-series SLI board + something from a 7600GT to a 7950 GT.

P.S. What kind of PSU do you have?

Doesn't really work if he's only got £300 to spend.

If you can stoop to 2nd hand kit, you should be able to get that lot for about £300, but if you can only buy new parts, you'll probably end up with a 7600GS and similar to the above.

You can hit that budget no problem

    Opteron 146 Retail ebuyer/scan £59

    AMD Athlon 64 (ADA4200BVBOX) X2 4200+ socket 939 Dual Core 2.2ghz 512kb and 512kb Cache - £133 ebuyer

    MSI K8N Neo4-F SKT939 nForce4 chipset Dual DDR400 PCI-E ATX - £43 ebuyer

Asus A8N-SLI SE Socket 939 Nvidia NF4 SLI ATX - Sound, Giga Lan USB 2.0 1000MHz FSB SATA - £57 ebuyer

    EPoX EP-9NPA3 SLI, nForce4 SLI, Socket 939, ATX, S-ATA2, GbLAN, DDR, PCI-Ex16 - Komplett £60

    Graphics, shop around

for quickness I went to ebuyer

    Inno3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB TV Out DVI Core 560MHz Memory 700MHz PCI-E - £90

You can pick up a 7900gs for aound £110./115

    X1900GT 256 around £130

    X1900XT 256MB around £163

    or for pure bang for buck a 7300gt 8 pipes ddr3 256mb for £68

    --added

    XpertVision GeForce 7600GT 256MB DDR3 £82.24 microdirect

I would also think about a new psu, unless you have already got a decent one

    edit

    RTT :p

I think Krikkit has hit the nail on the head. Save up some more pennies, £500 would get you an okay system as a new PSU might well be needed too :)
