no problem. we all had to start somewhere :)

theres no better way to learn then to dive in. todays hardware is relatively idiot proof. if something is hooked up or set wrong it usually just wont work.

and there are tons of good guides on bit tech and other overclocking sites about how to setup, optimize, and overclock your rig (when that time comes).

if you have any more questions along the way, just let us know!

Ok booted up for the first time today and i'm getting no usb power to anything and my mb is saying there is a fault with the cpu, now i know i fitted it correctly as you say it's idiot proof. Has anyone got any ideas? i'm not to happy about getting back down to it because a dark rock cooler means taking the whole thing out the case again?

    interesting.

what is the exact error your getting? can you post a screen shot or picture of it?

it may be worth your time to try and reseat the CPU. you dont need to pull the whole motherboard back out, just remove the cooler from the CPU, remove the CPU from the socket, check the socket very closely for bent pins (use a magnifying glass if you have one), then reinstall everything with fresh TIM.

check your BIOS settings to make sure your USB controller hasnt been turned off for some strange reason (it should be on by default though).

you have to boot from your optical drive to install windows (since theres nothing to boot on your harddrive yet :) )

youll want to change the SATA controller to AHCI before you load windows though. otherwise youll either be stuck in IDE mode (slower and without the extra features AHCI supports), or youll have to try to switch it later with windows installed which can be a hassle.

your motherboard manual can tell you under which menu the SATA controller settings are.

oh just as a note aswell, the Dark Rock cooler has a fixing plate that is situated at the back of the motherboard. This make it bloody fiddly at the best of times holding the plate, cooler and a screwdriver :)

No, no sign of it in device manager, it's a creative, sound blaster x-fi titanium, just another question aswell. Today I got a random cpu fan fault the would not allow the system to boot until I went back into bios and save settings again?

I looked at the rpm and was running at a steady 600rpm?

im not sure on the sound card. scan your BIOS settings and make sure you dont have a PCI settings messed up or something.

the system should boot even with a CPU fan failure warning active, something else is going on....

Iv'e rechecked in bios and the cpu fan cut off is set to 600rpm, when the system is booting it seems as if the fan is not reaching the correct speed.

The system then hangs saying cpu fan failiure, and asks me to enter setup, iv'e checked it this morning and found the setting for lowering the cut off speed so iv'e set it to 500rpm.but i'm not sure what speed it should be running at?

I'll try rebooting it tonight after work to see if theres any change and try and look for the settings you suggested for the sound card

usually if a fan fails it stops completely, so i would set the cut off pretty low, like 100RPM.
