Yeah, I saw that on Hackaday, looked a really good idea, but only trouble is, everyone in the world knows about it now, not really a hidden server.

yah, I'd have it access wireless, and put it inside a more inconspicious appliance.
or not even an applaince. a hollowed out textbook might serve well.

hey, it you leave it on the bookshelf, you can run it behind, and no one will SPECIFICALLY LOOK THERE.

Just put a clock/radio or something else that runs off of mains electric, and sap power off that.

I think it's cool... and it isn't plastered all over the newspapers or anything, so it's still a pretty stealth device.

Me, I don't even use cases... my computer is mounted to the underside of my keyboard drawer. :thumb:

or you could do what ramzi did on thebroken and put thermite in a drive bay. that would melt the computer pretty well.

Idea: find a large UPS with a bad battery and replace the batteries with some external car batteries. Then put a server where the old battery went. Mini-ITX in a 1500VA APC anyone?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermite

basically, it gets super super hot, and molten, and whatever its in, gets hot and molten too, melts, so say you had a thermite stuffed hollowed out hd ontop of your hd with files on it you need to destroy at a moments notice

hit a button to ignite the thermite, and watch the S*** hit the fan

but in some cases it mite not be the best, its like they break down the door, " can you wait 5 mins i gotta post the rest of my worklog" or " 5 more frags man just 5 MORE"
as well as the risk of your house burning down

Ideally you want it in something they would never ever look in. If they do come to investigate, they are going to seize anything to do with computers. Therefore you would nee something like a TV, or a radio, or anything that can draw electricity without attracting attention (eg a book with a power cable). How about a printer with the insides taken out? That way you would also have a reason for haaving a cable conencting the printer to the PC.

You could put a PC into a File Folder...but that would raise these questions:

    1. whys the folder whirring?
    2. Why has the fiolder got blinking blue lights?
    3. why does the folder have a window and a custom paint job...

Sh*t, if you want to hide a computer then just put that bad boy inside the wall.

Check it-- My desk sits against the wall of my closet. I pull a section of wallboard out of the closet interior opposite the desk. A little creative woodworking is all it takes to make a computer-on-a-stick, plop 'er into the wallspace with a little ventilation and cover it back up. LAN interface through a standard RG-45 wall plug.

    PII on a stick:
