Hey all. I dunno if this is really an AV question, really I guess more of software but anyway. My question today is; Is there any way to up scale DVD's without an up scale DVD player by ripping my DVD's to my hard drive and using software to perform the conversion? I could swear there was a thread about it a while back but for the life of me I can't find it and google seems to yeild no results, probably due to my search terms. Cheers
http://www.htpcnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=132&Itemid=54 you could do them in real-time, I've tried this and the results are pretty impressive.
Not a software conversion but in a day or two (might be today, actually) TR has a review of the new HDDVD drive that upscales DVDs to 1080. They look fantastic! We were watching Black Hawk Down on a 42" 1080p LCD yesterday and it was phenominal.
Darn. I was hoping for a conversion as I can't really afford to shell out on a new player and sadly I don't actually have an HTPC. Shame there isn't an easy way to rip -> upscale -> re-encode to something the 360 can play over the network. Ahh well. Such as life
is there any way to get the effects they got from that guide on an XViD file? (mine look pants in VLC / Mediaplayer classic)
You mention an xbox 360. You probably know this already but if you have the xbox connected by the VGA lead then it upscales DVDs and does a pretty good job of it as well.
ah. I didn't actually know that! I couldn't find it documented anywhere around the web. For 20 quid that's not too bad an idea. I'll have to look into it more. Thanks
This ones a bit cheaper but out of stock at the moment. Seems to be well regarded too alot of people put it second best to the Microsoft and Monster cables.
Wow, that's a serious improvement from the guide that _tad posted. A bit of a ballache to get going, but once it's done... And Bindi get out, with your fancy review-sample shizzle.
