As the title says... my monitor is 2560x1600, got a mac pro and a PC. I bought a Belkin soho 4 port, which claims to support 2560x1600 but in reality, it doesn't 50% of the time. Screen goes fuzzy. It supports fast key switching which is great, but shame cant get the screen to work. Tried working with Belkin's tech support enote system, they're a joke. They don't even seem to be sure of what resolution it supports, and keep contradicting the pdf spec sheet from their own website. One person doesn't know what the other has said, and the conversation goes around in circles.. Bought an ATEN 4 port high res KVM from amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004UID5TG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) but incredibly, it arrived with a 2 pin European plug. I bought a EU -> UK adapter for it, but it keeps falling out from time to time. Tried taping it etc, but it still keeps coming slightly out and if it comes out by just 1mm the whole thing turns off. I have since discovered according to trading standards, it's illegal to sell things in the UK without a UK plug, so Amazon and/or ATEN are breaching government legislation. Also, the ATEN one doesn't support quick hot key switching. The best you get it to press Ctrl Ctrl [n] Enter, to swap between computers. That's 4 key presses, which is unreasonable. I bought a Startech high res KVM, but it doesn't support hot key switching at all. I just need a high res KVM that supports fast hot key switching (maximum 3 keys, e.g. Ctrl Ctrl left or Ctrl Ctrl right). All of these KVM switches seem to take 5 seconds to switch between computers; the display just goes black for 5 seconds. I'd appreciate it if anyone knows of one that can also switch a little faster, 2 seconds would be more reasonable. Cheers
So to go from input 2 to 1, you have to cycle through the ports, press Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Enter, Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Enter, Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Enter. Do you think that's good enough? The only alternative is Ctrl Ctrl [n] Enter, to swap between computers. That's 4 key presses, which is what I said. Also, the ATEN KVM (which is what you're talking about) arrived with a 2 pin European plug. I bought a EU -> UK adapter for it, but it keeps falling out. Tried taping it etc, but it still keeps coming slightly out and if it comes out by just 1mm the whole thing turns off.
If you are running 2560x1600 video resolution you need a Dual Link DVI KVM Switch provided your PC and Monitor have Dual link DVI connectors as well. Unfortunately, all the features and functions you are looking for are offered in Enterprise level KVMs not SOHO units as it is not cost effective. I would recommend checking KVMSwitchTech as they offer a wide range of KVM Switch solutions.
