I need help, i just found out my mobo wont go above 512mb of ram stupid POS. Tip never ever buy a gigabyte board. :wallbash:

anyway i am now in the market for a mobo/cpu/ram upgrade.

i am currently planning on the following

    AMD 64 3000+ :D
    512mb Ram PC-3200 (kingston) :D

for mobos i am stuck between MSI and Asus.

i have decided i need the following features

    SATA
    USB 2.0
    IEEE 1394 (aka firewire)

i dont need raid and all that jaz, but it has to be reliable and stable.

i would be at first installing a dvd burner and about 2 hd. geforce 4 ti-4200 and a soundblaster live 5.1

    any suggestions ?

i was thinking of the following

    Asus K8V-SE Deluxe

    MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R

or any others that are around $170 canadian

the approx total cost for this for me is about $568 Canadian.

    hey there

OMG! wont go above 512MB, im guessing its quite an old gigabyte board?! My last board was a gigabyte board, sadly cant remember the model, it was the best board id eva had, and had loadsa onboard stuff, plus had space for like 1GB of ddr. The only reason i got rid of it was cos i managed to snap it by taking out the mobo tray. GIGABYTE = GOOD! lol

The board i got after that (and have still got) is the Asus A7N8X - E Deluxe. And i hav to say its useless, granted u get a lot with it, ie. firewire etc. but as sooon as it was installed the drivers were out of date etc. then i had (what i have found to be a VERY common problem with other users on forums) with the onboard audio, im not complaining about this clearly it isnt the same board as ur wanting to get, but their customer service is c**p, took me weeks to get a replacement sent.

Just thought id let you know.

    cheers

I would go for the Asus board, as I have heard **tons** of good statements about it. Also, The Abit K8V Max 3 is a good and solid board, with all those features. Its problem free and powerful :) (Ive actually used the Abit board) The MSI board is good too.

i think i will be getting the msi, cause it's red :)

    thanks for your input.

just so you guys know my old board is a

    Gigabyte GA7VAXP Ultra

my problem, when i have more than 1 512mb pc-2700 module it constantly reboots and when i run memtest86 it gets about 2400 errors. but when i ran them in another mobo, runs memtest86 perfectly

so thats why i think it's mobo.

just added something to the list

    Coolermaster CAV-T01 Midtower
