"The killing of six suspected members of the al-Qaeda network by America's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Yemen on Monday has drawn attention again to the US ability to use high-technology weapons to attack its enemies. The six were killed when their car was hit by a missile fired by a CIA unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone, according to unnamed sources. The BBC's Defence Correspondent, Jonathan Marcus, says that the CIA has been using Predator drones armed with anti-tank missiles in Afghanistan. It is likely that this was the sort of drone used in the Yemen attack. It could have been launched by US forces in Djibouti, across the Red Sea from Yemen." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/2404425.stm It was only a matter of time before they started arming them. It's a little scary to be honest - It's essentially an armed robot. Just a bit Skynet, don't you think?
I'm guessing they've been armed for quite a while. I'd also wager that someone is still in charge of pushing the proverbial red button.
i thought this was going to be about al gore *leans across to his AKAI* *presses pad 15* *badump-tsch!* *n
They have been armed for a little while now. It's a robot in the loosest meaning of the term. It's more like the most advanced R/C airplane you can get. Somebody sits at a screen with a joystick and flies the bad boy around. I think its awesome. Cheaper, no pilots life to risk, far more maneuverable without a pilot, harder to target with anti-air.
Would suck to have 2 screens next to each other... one a flight-simulator-combat game, and the other, the drone screen
