And the US takes gold in the sychronised 10,000m bulk emailing final! ;)

    This from the beeb:

The US is the biggest spammer, despite efforts to combat unwanted e-mail, according to net security experts.
Almost 43% of all unwanted e-mails originated from the US in the last month, said anti-virus firm Sophos.

The report suggests that anti-spam laws passed in the US nine months ago have had little impact.

South Korea, the most broadband-connected country in the world, was next in line, firing out 15% of all junk e-mails.

"Almost nine months on from the Can-Spam legislation and the US's attempt to clean up its act appears to have had little impact," Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos said.

"Canada has made some progress, however, cutting the percentage of the world's junk e-mail sent from the country by over half, from 6.8% six months ago to 2.9% today."

The figures also showed that South Korea had tripled the amount of spam mails sent out from its networks since February.

Too bad lorquis, you'll just have to settle for second place and a silver medal - unless you spa... I mean lodge a protest with the judges... :hehe:

The US has been the top spammer for years, hardly news :p The CAN-SPAM legislation is completely useless, and only affects companies sending email inside the US when the majority of spammers (in the US) use servers in places like China because they're so damn hard to shut down.

Check out the Spamhaus ROKSO list to see where all your spam is coming from. Notice how many say United States by them.

We swept the 400m mens running too :)

Can-spam doesn't do jack... on the contrary it just confirms you got the email if you hit unsubscribe and sends it to a dozen other spammers even if it cancels the original.

What do spammers gain from spamming? We should do something to clog up their servers.

Big fat wallets, that's what they gain. We shouldn't clog up their servers, we should be disabling them so they can't use them any more.

Hardcore spammers should be hunted down like the scum they are and thrown in jail. We know who they are, why isn't anything pro-active being done?

There is NO point wasting time dragging your feet trying to get completely useless and stupid legislation passed to "try" to stop them. They should just make ALL email advertising illegal and send out the police to arrest those behind it. And if I had my way, I'd have them publicly hanged, on television. Might stop others from following their footsteps. ;)

(And this is why I'm not in charge, ahem)

I don't know about that. I mean, there are a few ads that I like to receive like sales going on at places I do buy from. What they should make illegal is the selling of contact lists to 3rd parties. In essense make it illegal to send bulk email to anyone if they haven't previously signed up to receive it.

Ok, I missed out an important word.

What I should've written is: They should just make ALL unsolicited email advertising illegal and send out the police to arrest those behind it.

Legitimate mailing lists I don't have a problem with, I'm on a few which I've asked for, unless of course there's no damn "unsubscribe me" link at the bottom! :D
