    Hello everyone,

Should I have hooked my Toshiba pcx2200 cable modem to my PC via a NIC or is the onboard usb of the board in the signature below sufficient? I have already made the appropriate changes in the registry to "unleash" the full potential of the cable but i keep hearing that throughput would be even faster with an ethernet connection card

    Thanks
    Randy

Most usb modems be it 56k,dsl or cable use fair amount of cpu power, but ethernet cards are less hungry thats why you probably hear its faster. Also you have to understand although your laptop has usb 2.0 it its more than likely that your modem will (is) only usb 1.1 which limits to max of 12mbps. Now this isn't a problem on a cable connection as I very much doubt that you have over 3 mbps connection anyway.
