Ok I'm having this issue with usb hubs in that I can only use a keyboard/mouse will only work on them.

    I need to run
    MX232 LCD,
    Bearpaw/PB 1200+ scanner
    DVD Duel Layer W/RW,
    120GB HD,
    ipod dock,
    SE w810i dock
    USB Air rifle
    PSP,
    2 X thumb drives.
All from only 2 USB PC ports.
Can someone recomend a powered hub(s) that will do the job?

any USB hub by a decent brand with an external power plug should do the job just fine.

Well having a chat today and it seams there is a problem with PB/bearpaw usb scanners running through the hubs.
Would a patch lead with a dedicated 5v across the power line work?

again, get a hub that has an external power source (plugs into a wall outlet) that way it doesn't draw power from the pc, and you still get a fully functional usb hub.

Can you add a plug-in (PCI) USB card to your mobo with a few more ports? One problem could be that a hub is sharing the bandwidth to everything plugged in, and some of your stuff needs a lot of bandwidth. Mice and keyboards don't need much.

bandwidth will definitely be an issue with a Hub. Recently used a hub with two web cams, it was externally powered, and it couldn't sustain a decent data through put. have a look into the pci usb expansion card, for the equipment that will need more bandwidth. then use a hub for the less bandwidth hungry things!!
