Hi Guys - I need a bit of advice on a problem thats driving me mad, I work for the IT dept at a local school.. we have 65" touch screens - that connect to a laptop with a USB and VGA connection. We've had to buy different laptops, as the model we had isn't available anymore.. The new laptops we have, have usb 3 slots.. I've found that the connection to the board totally wont connect or even detect - with usb 3 - by changing some settings in the bios.. I can make one of the ports into a usb 2.. It at least detects the connection - however its going from on to off... within a few sec's - which it does for about half a minute.. then totally loses the connection. Any ideas?
Do you have the USB 3 drivers installed? I'm sure you do, but it is a good place to start. Can you change the USB cable to the screen? Can you try a different laptop to rule out cable/screen damage? Does the screen have drivers that need installing on the laptop? Can you USB another device to the laptop, such as a mouse or a printer and see what happens. As I understand it USB3 is backwards compatible, so you shouldn't have to change bios settings... But I could be wrong.
Yeah, you shouldn't have needed to fiddle with the BIOS, USB 3 are backwards compatible. You should've reinstalled the drivers to make sure.
I've had another play.. oh what joy! I can get the usb 3 to connect to the touchboard (w7 32bit) - however it seems to depend on the route/length, some makes of usb cable work fine.. others wont. It's a good 5 metres from the board to the desk, and has another joiner socket on the wall which goes into the laptop on the desk. Now the next part of pain.. I've bought these: http://www.cclonline.com/product/11...ersal-USB-3-0-Laptop-Docking-Station/NOT8636/ However it wont mirror and upscale the laptop display to the touchboard. However.. a vanillia win 8 install WILL! - ahh.. use 8 then you say - would do, but the buggers dont have w8 32bit usb 3 drivers! I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
According to the release notes.txt file on star tech site it looks like it supports 32 and 64 bit 7 or 8 though I'm using my phone so can't be certain. Also I thought USB was good for 5m then you run into issues. If you're using an active adapter then you may be Ok. There was something I used in my last place of employment that was a USB or cat5e adapter that worked well. If there is a couple of long cables that *may* help to identify the problem. What happens if you plug direct from laptop to screen (without the dock and without any wall connections)
Yeap.. instructions say it supports the modes - but it wont upscale.. the problem is, it uses its own docking station display drivers.. which interferes with the intel drivers. I will display the laptop screen 1366 x 768 - however its in a small box on the big screen. (as it needs to upscale to HD res) Plug it directly into the laptop.. fine. As for the win 8 drivers.. on the fujitsu latop.. nope.. they dont have them for 32 bit only 64..(and I cant install the w7 drivers) Think what I'm going to have to do is play around with different leads, on different OP's.. hope I can make some sense out of it. Absolutely frustrating that I seem to have 3 bits of different tech, all new - that just refuse to talk to each each.
there are some devices that won't work with usb 3, even though it is backwards compatible you could try using a usb 2 hub in the usb3 port and connecting to that and see if that helps
