I have lurked for some time and its likely some of you have helped me without knowing it (thank you), however i have come across a rather particular problem that needs more specific help. First a little history. Recently my computer fired, the motherboard and even CPU died horribly. I had to get a new motherboard and CPU, it was a small upgrade but thats neither here nor there. So far, everything has worked fine, except for my USB mouse (Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0). At first it worked for about an hour before it started to freeze up and either have to wait a few moments, or unplug the USB plug and plug it back in. I have tried it with all the USB ports i can find and i still get this issue. Okay, i thought, just reinstall the drivers that probably got lost. This hasnt fixed this, however. My old motherboard has two pin-ports for the keyboard/mouse and i used an adapter for the mouse, this motherboard only has one pin-port (which the keyboard needs) and i thought without the adapter it would still work just fine, it can't be that. Sometimes i get a message popping up at the button right saying that the device is not recognized or some such (its fast and doesn't stay around long). When this little hiccup happens, i hear the same sound that you get when you plug in a PnP device. It seems that it thinks that the mouse is being unplugged (and when it works) the sound appears again when the mouse starts working again (it thinks its back in). Even when the mouse is working (and not freezing or dying) sometimes the computer 'thinks hard' for a moment and whatever program it is running will freeze for a moment. I'm not sure of the cause or and solutions. On a side note, with my old motherboard i could have speakers plugged into the (green) audio port in the back to get speaks and headphones (the headphone/mic setup) plugged into the front (green) port. However it won't recognize the second green port if the first is plugged in, any reason why this is? Thanks again.
With the USB problem, what OS are you running XP or Vista? If it's XP do you have service pack 2? Did you do a fresh install of your operating system when you got the new Motherboard or not? As to the sound. The front audio normally knocks out the rear audio (or vice versa) because the inbuilt amps are not very powerful so they can't power two sets at once.
Sorry for not replying sooner I was not actually the one to reinstall windows but i do believe that it does indeed have SP2 on XP
