Hi i built a computer not long ago and have only just got it up and running (it was working was just in storage). I installed all the drivers (sound motherboard graphics etc...) but when it came to loading my USB i started having problems, the drivers it found of my abit nf7 once loaded made everything REALLY REALLY SLOW. So i though okay i'll download some of the internet, so i downloaded some, i tried deleting the ones already there the faulty ones, and re-installed the new ones, then loads of unkown devices came up in the USB device managager thing. I was like wtf.

Now whenever i try and get new usb drivers it just re-installs the crappy ones automatically. Is their anything i can do to get my USB working properlly.

Also i have a wacom graphire i downloaded their drivers of their website and when i run it it says. c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft winows applications chose to close or terminate application.

    wtf is that?

    Thanks for the help.

Your problem or your message is quite perplexing. It's hard to tell what USB drivers you are talking about. Basic USB functionality is buit into XP (can I assume you are using XP?). All other drivers should come with any devices you purchase (USB or otherwise). What kind of USB devices do you have? Have you tried unplugging them? Where did you get these better drivers and what were they for?

About the only way USB should effect your performance is if there was a serious defect in you MoBo.

when i first loaded xp, i was installing mobo drivers, then it said download windows sp 1 so i did and installed it. Then it found the usb drivers. Then another pop up came up saying it found a usb hub router thingy :S. Then i clicked next and it find the drivers for that so it installed them then the pc started going real slow.

So thats when i downloaded some sony usb drivers. Then i tried some VIA usb drivers. I've not been able to sort it since then.

Humm seems like your best bet will be to re-install windows and SP1 but don't install the SP1 USB Hub driver. I can't imagine doing anything else. Then you should also approach your MoBo manufacturer with this issue to see if they have seen it.

Should I assume you don't have a USB PCI card plugged in? If you don't, this hub is in your southbridge. Definately you should use the XP drivers first.

You need to work on adding more detail to your posts. Its impossible to tell whats going on without detail.

However, the first thing I would say is, unless you are running W2K or WXP, don't bother with USB.

I am running windows xp, i had all sorts of problems when i tried to load some drivers by mistake. (Read Post 1.) i was told to re-install windows so i did. I loaded my graphics drivers & motherboard drivers, I use a Abit NF& v.20. Everything went fine. I plugged in my Wacom tablet and installed the drivers for it and it worked fine. Then i set about getting my camera to work. I plugged it in via USB turned the camera on and a window poppud up saying Unknown USB device. Click here to fix the problem. You click and it says USB :- Unknown Device, you click next and it says replace device or try re-connecting device.

So i rec-connected and got the same message. It's really strange because the computer i am on now (downstairs computer) has no trouble whatsoever and it's also running windows XP, you just plug the camera in and it comes up Sony DSC-P9 found. Click to download photos.

What could be causing this to occur. I've downloaded the new windows update on both computers. :waah:

    thanks for the help.

Unplug everything usb, uninstall the drivers and devises - scan for hardware changes and reinstall it, then re-plug in everything one at a time?

There should be a couple of image transfer modes on that camera, namely Mass Storage and PTP.

When it is set to Mass storage, the camera will automatically be recognised as a usb mass storage device by windows.

If it is set to PTP however, you will need to make sure all the sony drivers / software is installed ike it is on the other pc.

If you can't be bothered messing around finding more drivers, just set the camera to Mass storage mode in the menu and it'll show up automatically in my computer as a removeable storage drive :)
