Hi there i wanted to know if its possible to use a laptop monitor on another laptop. the laptops are not the same brand, one is a dell and the other one is a toshiba though. thnaks for any information
Others will tell you it is not possible to do such a thing, I am going to say it is not possible just due to the level of difficulty and unpredictability of what kind of lcd your laptops are going to take. But I will share my luck in swaping LCD's in the manner you describe I had an LCD from a fried Dell Latitude CPi and just to find out of it was possible to plug it into other laptops I took apart the lcd assembly on my IBM A20m laptop and found that the lcd cable was exactly the same and would plug in and work perfect. Even though my ibm has a 14.1'' lcd and the Dell's old lcd was a 13.3'', the important thing was that they were both what is called LVDS (Low Voltage Differiential System) basically a fancy way of hooking up digital LCD's using a similar twisted pair system that Ethernet uses. With that success I was quite surprised. I purchased a Toshiba Portege 7200cte off ebay with a cracked LCD and was able to adapt the same old Dell LCD to work with it, and mount it properly as the LCD from the Toshiba was the same size. However getting the lcd to work with the toshiba was much harder, they used different plugs. So I had to look up the pinouts of the LVDS controller on the Toshiba's main board to get the pinouts correct for my lcd. In the end It hooks up perfectly and works as if it were the original lcd. Here are two pics of my LCD up and running. Some images of my cable I made to adapt the LCD to the Toshiba And the final product. Hope this helps Edit: Oh and welcome to the forums
