i have a pci-e video card with a RCA video out.. i was wondering if there was a way to use this as a video-in so i can record tv shows on my computer
Video out is not video in. You just can't. It's like reversing the monitor output plug, just can't, the circuitry doesn't allow such a thing.
only if you bought a VIVO card, which are fairly rare now and much more expensive than standard cards. and i don't think there was ever an x300 VIVO. so, no, you can't.
Can I listen to music through a microphone? No. It's a video out port, not video in. Does what it says on the tin.
you actually can plug headphones into your mic port and use them to record sound. try it. and it's too quiet for any practical purpose, but the opposite works too - you can listen to music through a microphone. and with AC97, you can switch ports in software so any analog audio out port can also be an analog audio in port.
Yes, that works. You can't however, listen to music through the actual microphone port, which was what I meant. Wasn't what I typed though Yes, you can switch functions with drivers, but not with video cards.
lol you can pick up cheap analogue TV tuner PCI cards for little over a tenner on ebay, i used to have one to play my PS2 on my PC screen (you just tune in like you would normally on a normal TV) kinda cool to have PS2 in a window on my PC, and to be able to record any of it any time. that would be my suggestion, but whatever you do, DON'T buy a hauppage one, cos the software is CR@P
In some rare caes, the card can do capture. But unless a capture device shows up in your device manager, I doubt you card can do it. There are USB and PCI pacture solutions. For just composite video (the yellow RCA plug), these can be pretty cheap. If you want a tuner (can plug the coax directly into it), these are a bit more expensive. If you intend to play a console using the capture device, try and find one that is fast. Some devices are a bit on the slow side and the result is that the video lags behind what you are actually doing. But my experience is that these usually sacrifice video quality to get the speed. If you are just watching a video source, then quality and audio sync are the big things.
