omg, apparently the students in that county were given the option to buy them from the school for $50. a measly $50 would have gotten them a decent laptop. or a pretty good profit on eBay. if my school ever sells off the iBooks theyve got, ill be first in line to buy one.

Personally I think the laptops in that county were a waste, much like the projectors my school put into every single classroom, money that could've been much more well spent. I had an aging school, built in like the 70's with ghetto ass computers (decent 2 ghz dells) but they bought $7000 projectors for every class room, of which only 1 class used them the way they were meant to, every other teacher used them for movies and what not, Public schools are retarded occassionally :wallbash:

Only graduating seniors were giving the chance to buy them... thats why they changed it to county residance only, because the county fooks were upset at not getting a chance.

The county is dumb though.. either way their going to sell the laptops for $50, but an increase in tourism (if you want to call it that) would mean a big boost for the county business that day. Hotels, Gas stations, restaurants, etc. that would have all been taxed. They lost that money.

In addition to projectors, my school bought a bunch of smart boards. They're cool, but a waste. All the teachers continued to use the black board instead of the smart board. :p

What my school did (which turned out to be pretty useful) was buy about two dozen Dell laptops and wireless AP. They have this little travelling station that teachers can take to their classrooms for the day. It's quite handy and the laptops are actually pretty decent (Dell Latitude D600).

there's a smart board in every room in my school now, and some of the halls thats around 51 smart boards.

all our machines are at least 1.1ghz... and the latest 100 that have been installed are P4's @ 2.8ghz.

all the staff recieve training on the smart boards and they all use them as normal whiteboards and for powerpointing etc... your staff just need proper training on the bad boys.

My theory on the $50 price.

Thats what Apple say to the school once the "lease" on them has run out. Pay $50 for them or return them.

Think the school was being benevolent and letting the public have them back at the reduced rate.
