Considering either a good PDA or maybe a cheap Laptop for college, Just for taking notes, ect ect, Just wondering what`d be best, And if you could point out some uses for the PDA other than notes an such. Mike Edit: And also maybe point out a good £600 ish laptop or £400 PDA, Thnx.
I often use my PDA for recording lectures at uni so I can listen to them again later on if I didn't understand something. Obviously they're more portable than a laptop, so easier to carry around, but I'd probably look at getting a laptop rather than a PDA as they are a bit limited as to what you can do with them.
I use my PDA (HP iPAQ 2210) for : Sat Nav with tom tom 5 playing games tranfering files between work-home-mates house as a MP3 player Remote Control for winamp/i tunes/tv/video/amp/DVD player viewing photos on a larger screen than my digi camera whilst away from my pc MSN via my phone and other interwebnet browsing calender general notes basic word and excel editing contacts lists watching DVD's if you do buy a PDA make sure it has windows mobiles 2003 second edition, 2005 has a few bugs at the mo (Like always) and the Dell axims are very good as well as they have builting in bluetooth and WiFi, and makes sure it has duel card slots (Conpact flash and SD) that can be used at the same time
Have a ipaq 4100 (iirc) used as Monkey200SX basically. This ones got WIFI/Bluetooth built in, so makes MSN/web browsing on the move nice and eeasy. MP3's and video's etc can get streamed over the network, or stuck onto the memory card.... Need to get net sorted via me phone, any tips monkey?
ive found that the Sony Ericsson V600i is the best phone at the mo, it has up to 7 times faster than GPRS and vodaphone he only network to have the V600i) are doing it on a good contract at the mo. you have to sign up to a 3G tarriff for 18months (£40 per month) but they are doing 6 months haf price line rental and its 2.35per Mb (roughly 100 pages) its the phone im looking to buy and tarriff when mine runs out. and in november nokia is releasing the N91, its going to be the first pohne on the UK market with built in WiFi and a 4GB hard disc this one could be interesting, Nokia are unofficially branding the N91 as the ipod killer
Nice, how would I connect it to my 6230 (nokia) just use the phone to dial up? Have been trying to get things working via GPRS, but you need to set a dial number on the ipaq... Or am i going about this wrong lol?
you need a connection to a isp (prefferably a free one) that supports dial up, and in the MIE settings set up your mobile like a modem (as you would for a dial up modem on a PC) and then it should work
Ebooks. It's so much handier reading anything you want from a large library of ebooks on your PDA than having to find the books and lug them around with you.
I love my PocketPC, use it instead of a lappy...does wonders, and usually as well as a laptop 9 times outta 10. Get one with bluetooth to make your life easier. I use the Dell Axim with wireless/bluetooth. I play games on it, listen to music, and best of all, type notes or even handwrite them. Great for in classes. Though I DO recommend downloading a free "outlining" program instead of just trying to go it in PocketWord, which I find occasionally frustrating. Maybe other free word processors aren't so bad, but PW saves in doc format and is already installed. Best of the best is that some of the PPCs can use Linux...giving you all the compatibility of a full-featured OS in the palm of your hand. Definitely an idea to consider if you either are a penguinhead, or would like to learn to become one
HP IPAQ rx3115 this one is the way to go. Can control every thing in your house that has a remote. Plays movies, mp3s, and pics. Has bluetooth and 802.11b wireless built in. Has consumer IR and is on its way to my house right now. Ive have a dozen or so differnt pdas in the past and this one ive seen the best reviews for so far. ... not sure about linux support but i may have to give that a try... Da Dego, you have any links for information on how to do such things?
