Has anyone done this? Considering putting some LEDs inside my keyboard, to cause the gaps around the keys to glow (some), and looking to use the existing 5v and ground lines on the keyboard cable itself to provide power to the LEDs. Figure probably 4-6 LEDs, tops sanded down to diffuse the light. I've alread proved I can power an LED from the cable (love IBM keyboards with the cables that come out of the keyboard), my only concern would be damaging the keyboard, or the keyboard controller on the MB.
Nope, not a single issue at all with that, Keep in mind that a few old devices actually used a passthrough for the ps/2 port to draw power from it, it outputs at least 500ma, if not more. Just make sure you use the correct resistors for your led's or you may end up burning them out. good luck!
