is it possible to use my netbook to download steam games? and then tranfer the files over to my gaming pc? some of the downloads are 13 - 21 gig and id rather not leave my gaming pc on all the the time its gona take to download, i have a really slow connection, i dont mind leaving the netbook on downloading.
sure you can. When you're finished downloading you backup the game, transfer the backup over to your gaming station and restore the backup.
Yes sure I do something similar with my server as it is much lower power. Don't use the useless steam backup system though, just copy the game files out of it's directory inside of steam directory. It's so much faster.
Only if you make a junction first, there is no way to select location of anything within steam, it always put everything inside steam directory.
That's not correct anymore The latest version of Steam client (at least on Windows, cannot remember if it does the same thing on OS X too) allows you to create a new library on any available partition when you choose to install a game from your library e.g. from my steam: Anyway, @OP: as lysol already suggested, just download your games, and then move the steamapps folder from your netbook to the other PC, then restart Steam. The backup feature is useful only if you plan to backup your games on an external drive or optical discs (DVD-R or BD-R) but doing that on a netbook would be slow as hell, during the backup process, the files are compressed and the slow processor I suppose you've got on your netbook would slow down the whole process *a lot*
