    ...USB and Firewire 400 connectors?

The connectors on my mobo for additional USB2.0 and firewire will be covered up by my rad, without enough clearance even for the header plugs.

Is it possible to wire ribbon cable (from a floppy cable) to the pins, and then that to the plugs? Will the voltage or current draw from the headers exceed the ribbon cable?

    Thanks for your help!

I wdont think there would be a problem using a ribbon cable. Just make sure that you double check your Wiring.

It's been done before in a fabulous work log with a custom metal case wrapped about an NF7-S. So it should be possible, just make sure to use the burlier 40 conductor cables - you might not get grounds between ever pin, but you do get thicker wire.

    Thanks for the help!

So, 'beefier 40 conductor cable' wouldn't be floppy cable, then. What would be a source for this stuff? Old IDE cable?

    Thanks again!

BTW, you got a link for that log or a name of the project?

I'd like to take a look. I'm a little sad that I'm not the first to do it :(

Yep, old IDE cable is the stuff he's talking about.

Floppy cables should be a heavy gauge also, I think he meant just stay away from the newer 80 conductor IDE cables.

i thought that usb was balanced like cat5 so you should use twisted cable?

I've done it before, at least with USB, with no adverse effects. I had my firewire rigged up as well, but I never use it, so I have no idea if it was problematic.
