I was just wondering if i had two power supply (300 or 400 watts) is there a way to connect them together (like when i hit the power button it turns on both power supply at once)??
Yes you can. Macroman should be able to help you there. Macroman, get your ass over here now, someone needs you!
Heres a link to a 2 psu article, extension leads can be bought from www.quietpc.com as well as general pc shops. http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/power/psu.htm
by the looks of it that PC doesnt really need twin PSU's, unless there both pretty low power, its a slot Athlon or P3 so not a hungry munster really, ocuk sell a plug and play solution, but making it yourself is more rewarding
Thats why i was asking. Im powering about the same amount of stuff as that on one PSU... but thats a 500W.
thanks guys for the help... but i have one more other question.. will i still have to use 2 Switches?? ( if so: is there i way i can only use one switch???)
Sure... Make the first one (attached to the MOBO) to power a 12v relay. Hook up the Green and White wires of the MOBO connector on the second PSU to the NO contacts of the relay. Voila, Dual Power (make sure you have a GOOD LOAD on the 12V side of the second PSU, or you WILL burn it out) This will allow you to use one power supply to turn on the other, all with one switch. nuff sed?
cool mod only got a 300W and I got so much stuff on it... burner/dvd/3fans/4 ccs/etc... might be near limit but it works but it's a great idea when having small psu... no need to buy a bigger one
would luv to do the mod later on.. but for now im still new.. so was woudering if anyone would think this is the way to go.. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Overclocking_Accessories_27.html if u see any prob with this plz point it out..
Does the EXACT same thing I suggested, just costs about $10.00 more. It's up to you... But yes that will work... By the way, you will have a .12 second lag time before the second PSU will kick on, but that shouldn't be a problem, still powers on before post. P.S. the suggestion I suggested will work with an old AT power supply as well... Use a double pole relay, and kick the 120V switch from the at psu with it. Works a treat as well, and utilizes my old MAMMOTH AT power supply, I use it for my pump and a pelt.
