Try turning off skin preloading in the options menu. If that doesn't work, then open the UT2004.ini file in the System subdirectory of your UT2004 directory with Notepad, and search for the following lines:

    bShouldPreload
    bDesireSkinPreload

And make sure both are set to false (ie. =false at the end of each line). If one of them is =true, change it to =false. The main reason why you don't want this on is that it eats up tons of physical memory, which can cause the stuttering you're experiencing. If this doesn't work, then I don't know what the problem is. =/

Just out of interest, how quick do levels load for everyone else? I started playing this the other night, and it takes about 30 secs to load a level, but the HDD I'm using at the moment is an old ATA-33 drive (should have ATA-133 drive to test on Saturday)

Never experienced any stutters during play though, but I have 1gb of RAM so should be plenty for UT

Not excessive, ~ 15-20 secs per map. That ATA 33 hdd will affect things a lot, was painfull using a 6 giger to play the demo on over teh hols lol!

thihk it's time to change BOTH my 40gb maxtors, seem to be getting a bit slow these days, probably build a server with it, wanted to get SCSi all the time anyways.

Not really interested in SATA apart from the cable :D

Because im just missing a fast harddisc, if the data can't be accessed quick enough what point is having the best in everything else ?? :wallbash:
