I've gotten fed up with trying to make my own 80mm UV blue fans with 3 or 4 blue LEDs. Partly because it's fiddley, and partly because the outer rim casing of my standard UV blue fans is a little too thin....I've cracked 2 already in drill press, so it's starting to cost me. Is there anywhere in the UK or US I can buy pre-made fans like this? There are lots of places that sell UV blue fans with UV LEDs, but not blue LEDs.
I don't know of one but can't you get one of the uv led fans and swap the led's over? Just an idea... hope it helps.
Now that's not a bad idea, assuming the UV lit fan's LED wiring is simple enough to take apart (I'm no electronic genius). I know this wouldn't be very simple with Antec blue LED fans because they use circuit ribbon instead of wires for a lower outside profile. It would mean buying both UV lit and blue lit fans of the same make so there's a good fit (LED spacing).
its not hard to wire up a set of blue leds, I'm sure we can help out if you run into trouble Should save you the cost of a blue led fan (though it may be cheaper to by a fan with 4 leds in it then the 4 leds, depends how much you can get them for (I'd swap them for the uv leds, but i'm fresh out of bloos))
The only foreseeable problem is if the two different links of UV LEDs and blue LEDs have different resistors. Hoepfully the resistor(s) should be on the outside rather than inside the fan motor housing, they'll probably be micro resistors too, so that should make swapping them an easier job. Believe or not it's cheaper to buy them inside the fans already. A good quality single high brightness blue LED costs about £2.50 ($4) here in the UK....unless you buy bulk, but it's still more expensive.
Prolly will have different resistors tbh, most likely to be external to the housing though, which helps, it costs next to nothing for a new resistor anyway so I wouldn't stress too much about it. I know they /can/ cost that much, thats why I said it may be cheaper to get the fan, but as I said it depends on how much /you/ get them for, mean I buy them for ~10p each for cheap ones, ~50p for uber-brights... but thats me, different folks get different prices.
