This is my first post here, so if i do something wrong please dont spank me Im going on vacation next week and i thought it would be nice to have some sort of a musicsystem for on the beach, but i knew those mobile speakers suck. So i remembered i had read something about a boombox here on bit-tech, and i used the search function to find it. So before i start the real post: Thanks mobius9 for the idea!!! Now for the real post. The box is roughly 12x23x6cm big and made of mdf(is that an english word?). I didnt take much pictures in the beginning, dunno why, but here are some pictures of my current status(pretty ghetto , but that will change) This is my old r/c car that was collecting dust but it helped me out pretty much by suplying the batterypack. The batterypack, compared with my zen micro The adapter, which will enable me to reload the battery pack once im on vacation, because i dont know how long the battery pack will last A view of the top of the box, you can see the volume control and on/off buttons from the amplifier The frontview of the boombox, with the speaker filter thingies clicked on to them The insides of the boombox Well that is it for so far, i will finish the glueing and painting this week and ill post some pictures of the endresult.
That look sreally nice, the only things i can say are 1. Have you thought about a power LED so you dont accidentaly leave the speakers on when not in use. 2. Are you going to paint the box? 3. what about a way to make the jack auto retract back into the speaker box when its not connected to the zen? 4. How bout a handle for portability? Good job, keep up the ingenuity
How do you like your zen micro. I for the life of me cant decide on an mp3 player but the zen micro is my first choice. Now are you sure the battery will power the speakers correctly. The voltages might be to low or what not. Ive never tried to use a rc car battery to run anything but for instance cell phone batteries aernt going to work for 5 80mm fans to run on 12 volts each.
funny I run my boomboxes off my zen micro too. great little mp3 player. 9.6v should run most computer type speakers fine. I've come across a few odd amplifiers that ask for 13 or 15 volts but its not common. The ones I've been using have all taken 9.6v. Try throwing a little bit of fabric batting. I did that in another one of my projects that I've not put on bit tech yet and the results turned out pretty good.
I really love my zen micro, its small and works like a charm once you get learned to the touchpad, which took me about 5-10 minutes. Now about the speakers, i first tested em on 220volt, and then i hooked em on my 9,6volt battery and there is barely any difference in maximum output, i have had it on for about 6 hours total now, and the maximum volume still is the same, i actually didnt expect the battery to live this long, since my r/c car always wasted the battery in like 30 minutes. 1. there is a power led next to the on button, but since its located in the box you cant see it on the pictures, but when you look at it from the topview you can see whether its on or not. 2. Ive found some metallic/silver spray paint stuff in the garage and tried to paint it, but it isnt the best choice, im gonna let it dry a bit more and see whether ill just stick with the silver/black or paint it something else. 3. I have been thinking about that, but didnt yet come up with a nice solution to fix that, maybe in the future. 4. ehm i dont think a handle is needed, its pretty small, weighs about nothing and is easy carryable as it is.
