Best 7 out of 9?
It's already another DNF!
The hype machine is off the scale, there's no way they could make something to satisfy people now.
Also I agree with that comic. The gaming industry and commentators are in self-destruction for a while now. There is no quarter between GOTY and not worth your money. It's a damn shame people can't just enjoy stuff.
It would be best 5 of 9 or best 7 of 13...
Sad sad sad
HL2 was the first game to pull me into gaming , the reason why I got a good graphics card, the reason I eagerly awaited each release
Now? I feel my loyalty and enthusiasm has been disrespected
Oh man, there are some people out there with seriously misplaced senses of entitlement!
Stuff like this:
is absolute nonsense. No offence intended to the poster concerned here, but you need to have a word with yourself
Would this be an awkward moment to admit that I've yet to play either Half-Life 2 Episode 1 or 2...?
I tried them. Didn't see what the fuss was about, I thought they were both quite dull.
just how big is that rock you live under?
...says the guy who has still never played Doom
TBH, I love the Half-Life series. Some of my favourite games, probably right after the System Shock series (still the best I've ever played) and Deus Ex. It's just that, for different reasons, I only completed Half-Life 2 around the time Episode 2 came out and I decided to leave the episodes for a bit later. Some time passed and other games came out. Then some more time passed and everyone was crying for Episode 3 or even Half-Life 3. While I, on the other hand, still have two episodes to look forward to. Not something I planned, though.
Exactly, I only starting gaming a few years back and about 18 months ago bought HL 1 and 2 in the steam sale and they were really quite boring. Then skyrim came out and thats all I played for months
They might have been good at the time but there are so many better games out now in my opinion.
It is fine to have that opinion, so long as you also recognise that you are evaluating them from a position of hindsight. The games you consider to be better are better because of the direct influence HL and HL2 had on the games industry.
It is a truism that all advances are made by building on the work of those who came before, and HL and HL2 were enormously influential on games developers.
You don't have to like HL and HL2, but it is important to objectively recognise their places in gaming history.
The end of ep2.... man, that was a videogaming moment that'll stay with me.
I really think that there never will be a Half Life 3.
Honestly, it's hit that point where it will NEVER reach our expectations. And to be honest, I'd never want to meet any sort of hero.
That said, this says a lot about the oddity that is the gamin industry. We want moar games. But we complain about annual sequels. We want moar quality but we complain about the wait for release.
It's not a binary situation, but a bit of patience would do and less banging on tables.
EEEEEEEEEEEELAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIII (or however it is)
Not sure why I'm spoilering a 7 year old ending.
I've not finished it....
tried playing EP2 a few times, could never get into it. Will have to give it another go tonight or tomorrow when i get more time.
It's bogus to be released in 2014 because it's goning to be released in 2013
dun dun dun.
