Is there a Gabe Newell in the house? Apparently not, according to the Inq's on the spot reporter. This however did not stop the party:

WE WERE all expecting to see someone from Valve to answer some of our questions on the recently launched Half Life 2 here in London but no one showed up, much to our surprise.

Unofficially, we heard that Valve could not make it due to an "enormous amount of obligations" it had because of its game launch. Officially ATI didn't want to comment on the lack of its voucher partner.

A Doom 3 programmer and a Far Cry programmer did tip up, however.

Despite the fact that Valve got around six million dollars for its dramatical voucher deal with ATI, valve simply didn’t show up.

You'd think the six million dollars ATI paid to Valve last year would encourager the autres, but apparently not.

I have to mention that guys from Lionhead, the producer of Black and White, had a very interesting down to earth presentation about "lights".

ATI's partners even spoke about mobile phones 3D chips and game development and that amused some of the folk.

All the hacks assembled in Vinopolis agreed that despite the absence of Valve and a big racket about Half Life 2, it was a very good event. Although we did capture a picture of Dave Baumann falling asleep during the proceedings.
