    That ain't a Windows thing: tiling window managers have been around for ages in Linux land. (Where do you think Microsoft stole the idea^W^W^Wgot its inspiration from?) It's just that 50:50, or more usually a 70:30 vertical split between a text editor and a terminal on the left then a 50:50 horizontal split between those and a browser window on the right, is how I work. But Steam says no.
    This is what happens when you buy you devs two or three high-resolution monitors and don't think about what your users have. Last I checked, 1920x1080 was still the most common resolution on the Steam Hardware Survey.

    For the love of god how do I stop the new chat automatcally starting!!!!

    I always had steam start on bootup but it would sit nicely in my icon tray but now I have this chat crapbox appear every frickin boot.

    I can't find anywhere to switch it off besides stopping steam start.

    Edit: it is feasible it's in front of my face but i just can't see it

    Unfortunately no option for that in steam yet, but there is a way to stop it:

    * Open your Registry Editor (Windows > Run > RegEdit)
    * Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    * Find the entry named Steam and add the parameters:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -silent -nochatui -nofriendsui

    As one who doesn't use chat in Steam, I'm glad to hear about the reg key. I'll have to apply that when I get home.
